"We had a great year," Fisher said in a video posted by TexAgs.com. "We finished fourth. That's just three spots too low."

Their highest finish since their NC in 1939

And possibly the biggest aberration in a year that comprised more aberration than normalcy.

Without Mond at qb, that program’s return to earth is going to leave a Chicxulub sized crater

without Mond at QB they might get better.
dude was a head case that could turn in an absolute shut show at times.

Which is just part of the reason why #4 was a laughable ranking imho

Their QB this year will be a freshman or a sophomore with no experience and in either case is in precious little danger of being drafted in the third round.

More to the point, without a third rounder or above at qb, Fisher has been a pretty average coach. Kind of like Chuck Amatto: good results with a good to great QB but not much without one (every coach is better with a better qb; few are as qb-dependent as fisher)

Even if they don’t get much worse though, the descent I speak of is not from how good they actually were; it’s from their flight-of-icharus position at #4

Just sayin': Actually ending up #4 is pretty good for Texas A&M they haven't ended up that high in the polls since 1939 when as you remember they were #1 and claimed a National Championship.

If Jimbo wants to kick Saban's ass he's just going to have to recruit better than Saban; because I don't think he can "out coach" Saban. Jimbo is recruiting pretty good but not quite as good as Saban. In addition, so far every year, Saban seems to just have a better QB too.

2018: Saban's class was #7, Jimbo's was #16
2019: Saban's class was #2, Jimbo's was #6
2020: Saban's class was #3, Jimbo's was #6
2021: Saban's class was #1, Jimbo's was #6

Lucky for Texas that aTm is off their schedule through a period of time when aTm has had the better teams. 76 - 37 - 5 in favor of the horns.

Jimbo has some comments today on that too:

Jimbo Fisher says ‘no way’ UT-Texas A&M football rivalry is renewed within 10 years

The Aggies’ head coach made the comments in a radio interview, according to 247Sports and GigEm247.

Jimbo Fisher doesn’t see the Lone Star Showdown between UT and Texas A&M being renewed any time soon.

The Aggies’ fourth-year head coach said in a radio interview with KLBJ News Radio in Austin that he supports playing the game, if it’s best for Texas A&M, and that there’s a tremendous amount of history behind the rivalry, but the game may take at least a decade to restore, according to 247Sports.

“Right now, that decision [to end the rivalry] was made a long time ago, and we have no control over it,” Fisher said in the interview, per GigEm247. “There were some things done there that are water under the bridge and I don’t know what all of that was, but I know right now there’s no way [the Lone Star Showdown] is going to happen for 10 years or so.”

When asked in a May 2020 interview with Horns247 about restoring the rivalry game, Del Conte said Texas is focused on playing “anyone that has won a national championship in the modern era as part of our non-conference schedule.” Texas A&M’s only national title came in 1939 when the Aggies were voted national champions by the Associated Press.

“I looked at where we were, and promptly looked at why we have to create great games at home and add an incredible value to our season ticket package. We promptly went out and scheduled Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State and Michigan,” Del Conte told Horns247 in early May 2020.

“My goal is to play anyone that has won a national championship in the modern era as part of our non-conference schedule. We have LSU that won a national championship in the modern era. You go down the list — Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State — at the University of Texas, these are the brands that we should be playing home and away, and we are going to do that. That was my scheduling philosophy.”
