John Calipari (official thread of impending probation)

At least Cal has a ring and has actually beaten his rival.

Dumb comparison.

Calipari loses with a roster of blue chip players.

Harbrau loses with a roster of primarily 3* "harbrau guys"

So basically...yeah, nothing alike, except they’re both too good for Tennessee Clay.

Cal isn’t exactly the bastion of success, but he is still multiple classes above Harbaugh as a coach.

It's like when they compare Harbaugh to Cooper

not all underachievers are the same

Take away the Rain Man schtick/Twitter and Jimmy's probably jobless given his actual performance the last 4 years.

Cal has actual won something though and has gotten his teams to a NC multiple times. Calipari is more like the Les Miles of college basketball.

I don't really have too much of a problem with Cal other than the talent he squanders. He seems like a coach who's aware of the farce of "amateurism" in a sport that makes billions and barely tries to hide it, unlike Coach K who comes off like a sanctimonious prick.

The lifetime contract signing reminds me of Jim Valvano at NC State. He had a great autobiography title about his contract with NC State: "they gave me a lifetime contract, then they declared me dead" ... of course that book was published a couple of years before he died from cancer. A lifetime contract has a way of being only so long as the NCAA allows it to be.
