By B Greene and M Hartman at the Ohio State site. Hicks has offers from almost everyone, and plans to narrow his list by summer. He says that the rumors he is a lock to go anywhere are untrue, and that he is wide open. He talks about Ohio State, Texas and Florida in detail.

What state did Jordan Hicks move to Ohio from? I know he has moved around a lot, but there are people from Texas, South Carolina, and Georgia all claiming he is from their state. Just curious if anyone actually knows.

With the addition of offers from Southern Cal, Penn State, Miami (Fla.) and Syracuse today, Lakota West junior LB Jordan Hicks (6-2, 210) is getting closer to having an offer from nearly every major Division I program in the nation. Oklahoma and Florida State are among those that still haven't offered, but I'm sure they could be next.

Keep in mind the Southern Cal offer is very significant because the Trojans are an obvious name brand in college football. They don't throw out early offers lightly - especially for a kid from the Midwest. The national perception is often that an elite prospect from Ohio will want to go to Ohio State or another Big Ten school. But, that's not necessarily always the case.

If you are offered by Southern Cal or any other BCS school for that matter, it's got to be tough as a 17 or 18-year-old to tell Jim Tressel, Pete Carroll, Joe Paterno or Urban Meyer, "thanks, but no thanks."

Remember, Southern Cal lost a few top-notch players to other programs like UCLA in the 2009 class, so the Trojans' coaching staff understands that and I'm sure is motivated by that fact.

Lakota West coach Larry Cox said Southern Cal assistant coach (and former NFL standout) Ken Norton Jr. called him and expressed serious interest with Hicks.

"He said, 'we want a kid like Jordan Hicks. We think we would do well in our program,'" Cox said. "He said, 'he's my No. 1 for linebackers.'"

Cox said the intensity has grown substantially with interest from several recruiting Web sites wanting to speak with Hicks about updates with his recruiting. Hicks will often get a dozen calls a night - many of which go unanswered - and now he is considering changing his cell phone number.

Still, Cox said Hicks hasn't let all the attention disrupt his life. Don't expect Hicks to make a decision anytime soon. His goal is to have a top 10 list by spring break next month.

"I don't expect (Jordan) to be an early commit," Cox said. "He's just a very cool customer - taking everything in stride. He's very humbled by it. He's still one of the guys."

Jordan Hicks Evaluation

Maybe one of the more explosive linebackers we have seen in the last two classes. Hicks generates striking speed and velocity in the short-area and plays the game with an intense motor. Has ideal size with his good height and longer, thicker frame that still has room to add 10-15 pounds of quality muscle. Reads the play quickly. Can beat blockers to the point of attack with speed or blow up the cutoff with outstanding short-area power. Shows great initial quicks and burst filling downhill. Mirrors ball carriers well between the tackles and is very difficult to outrun with his long wingspan and great chase speed. Not overly fluid but can knife through the fast moving traffic to make the big stop. Does need to watch leverage. Might be a guy who doesn't test extremely well on paper, but flashes excellent football speed, acceleration and sideline-to-sideline range. Closes on the ball fast and hard and is a very strong tackler who drives through from his hips. Can show some stiffness opening and turning in coverage but does a great job blanketing his underneath zone with his impressive breaking speed. His great blend of first-step quickness and burst combined with his long body and sell-out style of play make him a very disruptive blitzer. Deflects a lot of balls with his long arms and deceptive leaping skills and athleticism. Does need to work on his bend. While he generates speed very quickly when he locates the ball, he does tend to lose some in transition opening and turning to run; needs to play with a bit more sink in his hips. Not an ideal "space defender". Lateral pursuit angles can be a bit rounded. That said, it's very hard to find any physical weaknesses in Hick's game, a better vertical attacker than lateral but if employed in a heavy pressure system this guy could be very productive, very early at the next level.

Notes

2008: Recorded 88 tackles, 16 for loss, four sacks, and two interceptions. First-team All-Ohio Division I selection as a junior... 2007: Registered 61 tackles, seven for loss, and two sacks... Also recruited by: Georgia, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Illinois, West Virginia, Stanford, Duke, Indiana, Cincinnati...
