Police: NBA Star Caught On Camera Shoplifting In Miami Beach
Juwan Howard Not Yet Charged In Alleged Theft

MIAMI BEACH Fla. -- Police say that an NBA player who made nearly $6 million last year was caught on a surveillance camera stealing a pair of sunglasses from a Miami Beach store.

Juwan Howard, who plays for the Houston Rockets, was shopping at Eye Q on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach over the weekend. The store clerk said that when his back was turned, Howard took a pair of $1,600 Cartier sunglasses.

Miami Beach police said that when they reviewed the surveillance tape, Howard could be seen pocketing the sunglasses when the clerk's eyes were averted.

Howard, who owns two South Florida homes, one on Brickell Avenue and one on Old Cutler Road, was paid more than $5.9 million during the past season, according to the NBA. His career contracts since 1994 total more than $100 million.

Howard has not yet been charged in the incident.

how the hell does a clerk turn his back on a guy with a pair of $1,600.00 sun glasses? Or more than that, how does this Howard guy get his hands on these. I'm assuming they were behind some glass, and not hanging on some plastic rotating rack.

But then again, you can never underestimate the stupidity of some people nowadays (including Juwan Howard).

I was actually impressed with one of his accomplishments: He left school (scUM) a year early and actually graduated "on time" (i .e. in 4 years with his class).

"On April 29, 1995 became first NBA player to leave school early and graduate on time." See personal section of his bio: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/juwan_howard/bio.html

I guess all this just proves how easy it is for an idiot (see shoplifting incident) to get a degree from scUM.

Damn, for $1600 I would have thought that the sunglasses would be solid gold and/or have a karat or two of diamonds. Just how "precious" is that "african wood"?:

Cartier's unusual sunglasses have side pieces in precious wood, gold-tinted brown lenses and your choice of gold or platinum finish. The wood is bubinga wood, an African wood with an exotic red finish. The glasses are rimless and have the stylised Carter C motif. Seriously gorgeous. There is also a pair of the sunglasses available on eBay for a buy-it-now price of $1,550.
