K Aaron Pettrey (Las Vegas Locos - UFL)

I just want to pipe in and give props to the Raceland Rams, Pettrey's HS. Little school right across the river from Ironton. They strike fear into larger KY schools like Russell, Greenup County, Ashland, Boyd County, and Greenup County. I can't wait until he plays for the Bucks.

i heard his leg strength is crazy...similar to the kid at psu a few years ago. (anyone at state college in 03 when he lined up for the not sure 70 yarderish. i was telling the guy next to me it was in...i believed it. he missed a by a foot, i went crazy, nearly got killed.)

Don't be surprised if he's on this board. Someone contacted me on ICQ around two weeks ago and claimed to be his younger brother. I am almost certain he got my ICQ number off of BP.

If all of the information he gave me is correct, we should make sure we do not lose him.

The only thing I don't get about this extended grey shirt rumor is this -- where is the scholarship crunch? From what we can tell, unless some late offers get tossed out, there isn't one.

Walker Ashley's very latest is "PSU or USC". Gwaltney is a hot topic, but that's 50/50 at best. Maybe we add Robiskie and Washington to the class...that's three under the best of circumstances. Wilson is a possibile fourth, but the odds of landing all four aren't huge.

Daniels is not decommitting from Minny, so there you have it. Four more at the most. Dukes is not a sure bet to be returning, so I guess I don't get where the need to grey Pettrey for another year could come from.

It always amazes me that as valuable as kickers and punters are that they wind up typically in walk-on and grey shirt types of situations.

Edit: Biddle's comments are the only thing that make sense -- that this move would be to gain more seperation between Pretorius and Pettrey if they think that RP is going to win the job.

1) OSU told him that they have other kickers that they think are better than him and if he takes his scholly now he may only kick one year, his senior year. If he takes it next year he can kick for two years.

2) OSU told him that they are getting a recruit that they just cannot pass on and that he would be doing the football program a favor if he delays another year. No pressure, he gets to make the choice.

These are the only two reasons I can come up with that would make it okay for them to ask Pettrey to delay enrolling. Anything else and I would consider him a saint if he stays and you may be kissing the whole idea of "greyshirting" goodbye at OSU. Anybody have any other situations or new info that would make sense of this?

Looks like it isn't technically another grayshirt, but a request for him to walk-on in the fall.

Here are some updates from $nuts free board:

Re: Aaron Pettrey asked to delay his scholarship until Jan ' <hr size="1"> To clear up the original post, I believe they want him to enroll in March, but his scholy won't kick in until Jan 2006. He would essentially be a walk-on kicker for 2005 (I am assuming red shirt unless something happens). I'll let you know if I get additional info.

Admissions has it that the paperwork to get Pettrey enrolled was fouled up on both ends. Ohio State, and Ashland CC. There really isn't anything Jim Tressel can do about that. There are some things that are beyond his control, and this is one of them.

Asked to Walk-on

RIVALS

Aaron will walk-on in the fall. His scholie was contingent on Huston leaving, that is not happening so he had two options, either gray shirt another year or walk on this fall.

Aaron will receive a scholie when Huston graduates. It sounds like he will red-shirt. He has been working out with his high school coach and taking classes at a local branch of OSU.
