K Josh Huston (official thread)

he was kicking some pretty long FGs warming up against PSU. i felt bad that he was in Nugents shadow............until Nuge hit about a 60 yarder and i started yelling NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE

I'm not sure. But he has a consistent leg himself. Although he doesn't have nearly the range that Nugent does, he has been in his shadow. I read an article with comments from Huston on the preseason punting situation. He is one of those kids that wants to go out and help any way he can. Brilliant decision by the coaching staff for going with Turano. That ensured we would have a kid that could do both roles next year.

Kyle turano himself might come back for a sixth year..he's going to apply to NCAA to get eligibility for one more year as he had an injury in his first year at bowling green..i think i read that at Ozone..

Man Huston has been around since the Y2K bug was overcoming everyone with fear. I think he was a junior when that all went down........ :slappy:

All jokes aside, I'd love to have him next season. He can have a BJ Sander type of season (only from a kicker stadpoint).

According to a poster called 1buck on the O-zone, which looks to legitimately be Huston's father, they received official word that Josh got his 6th year of eligibility.

Congrats, Josh!

That would be awesome. I'll feel better if the story can be confirmed on something more than just a message board.

NCAA Gives OSU Kicker Another Year

Huston Receives Eligibility Extension

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State kicker John Huston was granted a sixth year of eligibility Thursday by the NCAA.

Huston, who originally enrolled at Ohio State in 2000 and was redshirted as a true freshman, missed all of the 2002 season with a hip injury.

The 23-year-old also suffered knee injuries during his career.

"We are excited that Josh will have the opportunity to realize his dream of being the Ohio State kicker," head coach Jim Tressel said. "Josh has worked hard during his career, and I know he is looking forward to this year. He is coming off an impressive spring, and I thought he really stepped up in the kick scrimmage."

Huston is trying to win the position vacated by Mike Nugent, who was drafted in the second round of the NFL draft by the New York Jets.
