Ken Griffey Jr.'s second-inning shot off Matt Chico left him seven home runs behind Mark McGwire, who is seventh on the all-time list.

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Ken Griffey Jr. tied Harmon Killebrew for eighth place on the home run list Tuesday, hitting the 573rd of his career.
The 37-year-old outfielder hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning, the Cincinnati Reds' first hit off Washington's Matt Chico. His drive to right field off a 2-2 pitch barely cleared the wall.
Griffey is 10 homers behind Mark McGwire for seventh on the list.
With the two-run homer, Griffey also moved ahead of Ernie Banks into 18th place on the career RBIs list with 1,637. Next is former Reds first baseman Tony Perez at 1,652.

Reds
Griffey's injury ends his season

Friday, September 21, 2007 3:37 AM

ASSOCIATED PRESS

SAN FRANCISCO -- Ken Griffey Jr. will miss the rest of the season because of a strained groin, the latest in a string of injuries to Cincinnati's All-Star outfielder.

Griffey left Wednesday night's game against the Cubs in Chicago in the eighth inning after injuring himself while fielding a ball in right field. As he started to make a throw, Griffey stopped in pain and had to underhand the ball to the infield before falling to the ground.
The Reds had announced the injury as a strained lower abdomen, and Griffey returned to Cincinnati to be examined. Yesterday, the team said he was diagnosed with a high groin strain and will be examined again in four weeks.

Yeah, if you would've predicted that at the beginning of the season we'd have all taken it and smiled. Those numbers are good enough to help this team win the division if some dumbass would just get the correct amount of pitching in here to work with.

CINCINNATI -- The Kid sat atop the equipment trunk next to his locker in the Reds' clubhouse, legs dangling, eyes searching for any and all activity.

He shared his seat with an authentic No. 3 Ken Griffey Jr. game jersey and a sanitary sock stuffed with three baseballs, resembling a sated snake with three bulging birds' eggs inside.

You got to love Junior. This gave me a chuckle.....

What a great morning to be a blogger. After a great graduation gag at Yankee Stadium and a fantastic Oriole Magic remake comes this outstanding clubhouse prank from none other than the kid they call Junior Griffey
Since he apparently owed Josh Fogg $1,500, Ken Griffey Jr. went about paying him back in the most devious way possible.
Entirely in pennies.
According to the legendary Hal McCoy of the Daily Dayton News, Griffey paid off his debt by having 150,000 pennies ? $25 to a box, 60 total cartons ? stacked in Fogg's locker like it was a safe deposit box.

?I?m a man of my word,? said Griffey. ?And when you owe a man $1,500, you pay him. And I?d like to thank the lovely people at National City Bank for helping me with this joke. There isn?t a whole lot you can do with pennies. Just think, each box weighs 16 pounds, so the man has 60 bowling balls in his locker.?
