Kentucky Wildcats (EABOD)

UK fan here. Born and raised in KY, but have lived in OH for the last 8 years or so.

...and yes, Barker is expected to pick UK by most of the people around UK. This will be the first of probably many recruiting battles between OSU and UK going forward given Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow's ties to OH. I can tell you, many of the UK fan sites believe OSU will get the lion's share of any OH prospect they want, but UK feels good about landing the guys in the Cincinnati and Youngstown areas. UK fans are confident UK lands Derek Kief. I'm sure many on this board would disagree, but there are increasingly rumors UK is gaining on OSU for the services of the trio from Glenville (Lattimore, Jones, and Smith).

I'm more interested in hearing about all of the recruiting battles Calipari keeps winning. Please make your way over to the basketball board if you have any "increasingly rumors" about that.

Wow, I've never heard of a UK football fan (looks weird writing it) trying to talk trash to fans of an actual football team. There hasn't been a recruit that UK or OSU has committed or is pursuing that we're going after head to head. UK is getting 2nd tier or lower OH recruits that would go to purdue, indiana, Illinois or a MAC school. Snodgrass is probably the only recruit you have that we went after, but we stopped really pursuing when we started getting more interest from higher rated recruits. I have to say that I do like your enthusiasm for your program, but you won a whopping 2 games last year, and your fanbase has a new found confidence from a new coach who has yet to even coach his first game. If you're looking for a team that is comparable to UK that you can troll, you should head over to the university of cincinnati boards. Thats your more realistic competition. Btw, hope you get barker and UK can finally win a game or 2 against actual sec competition and not have to rely on playing samford for wins

Here's the thing with Kentucky football right now:

Stoops is doing a great job of selling 2nd-tier Ohio prospects on playing in the SEC, which is quite devastating for B1G programs not named Ohio State.

The problem is that either one of two things is going to happen: 1) Kentucky will have some mild success and maybe (at best) win an Outback Bowl, thus giving Stoops an opportunity for a better job; or 2) Kentucky will continue to suck (as they always have) and this year's 2nd-tier talent defecting south instead of north to MSU will be a one-year wonder.

I tend to think it's the latter, simply because the impact of this (again MSU-caliber) recruiting class won't be felt by the program for a couple of years. In the ever-increasing competiveness of the (admittedly) best conference in football, UK probably won't even be playing in a bowl game for the foreseeable future. They'd have to get to 6 wins first and the non-conference cupcakes will only get you 3-4 wins at best.

EDIT: The Glenville senility isn't even worthy of a response. That's just... some next-level delusion right there.

If this post was dated 2004, it would be from a Pitt fan....

If this post was dated 2007, it would be from an Illinois fan....

If this post was dated 2009, it would be from a Cincinnati fan....

Now it's 2013, so UK fan chimes in with his bold predictions of greatness. Call me back in twenty years after your dynasty has been firmly established.

I want Kentucky to become attractive to the left overs that Cincitucky and Youngstown have - that will keep them away from direct OSU competitors and the Golden Domers. Some of those kids will be outstanding football players. I would love to see them playing in the SEC.

UK just can't have sustained success because the basketball drowns out and dwarfs whatever the football team does or is trying to do.

Recruiting pitch of Meyer: "You can play at one of the historic programs in the country, in one of the historic venues in the nation, under one of the best coaching staffs anywhere."

Recruiting pitch of Stoops: "You can play in the SEC, but you won't win many games, and even if you do, people will be asking, 'When is Midnight Madness?'.

The idea of UK going head to head in football recruiting (or anything football related) against THE Ohio State University is absurd.

FWIW, rumblings from UK they are feeling increasingly confident on eventually signing Jones and his teammates Lattimore and Smith. Glenville's coach is very familiar with Vince Marrow and Stoops and trusts them.

I think everyone else on the board has let you know how most Ohio State fans feel about that assertion. That said, I for one appreciate hearing other fanbase's opinions and contributions. Welcome to the forum!
