Eliminated from state tourney today officially ending baseball season for the short kid.

didn't get much playing time with All-Stars because "he's too small" and "not on the same level" and he'll "never be able to hit swinging that heavy bat".

but the midget hit .571 during the regular season (.533 combining regular season, postseason, and All-Stars). Striking out only 3 times all year using that heavy bat that he'll never be able to hit with.

committed 1 error in the field playing mostly 2B, a little 3B.

had a decent year on the mound too. nothing dominant, but never got rocked either.

not bad for being the smallest kid on every team he's played for this year.

Was supposed to be on Long Island this weekend for a lacrosse tourney. Apparently there were some storms on Friday. Seven teams couldn't get out of MDW. Thankfully, the flight I was on was cancelled as well. (i don't travel with the teams. Good for the kid to do that with his team alone.) A part of me thought about going anyhow to watch the tourney, but it would have sucked to be out there alone.

Thankfully the kid jumped into another tourney that was happening in Chicagoland this weekend. Double rostered on a local team and his HS team. 12-hours in the sun on Saturday. Long day.

Probably ended up being more fun than going out to Long Island. It's been a long summer of travel with stops in MD and MA before Long Island. Kinda needed a break. Looks like they'll head down to UNC to hang with Breshci in Aug instead of the Long Island trip. A couple of extra weekends home will be welcome.

One more all-star tournament for the boy this weekend, then travel ball tryouts on the 25th followed by the first football practices the week after that. Volleyball and fall softball for the girl start in 3 weeks as well. Fun times!! :dead:

My 10-year-old is playing Little League. He's the kid who's more likely to be caught dancing in the outfield than making a play in the field. Still, lase year he walked more than he struck out, and he got a hit (yes, I used the singular form of the word). This year, game 1 was same old, same old, as he walked once (got the RBI, though) and struck out once. Second, game, though, he swung at what should have been Ball 4 and hit what was basically a bunt back to the pitcher. The kid has two speeds, and if you don't like the first one, you're sure as hell not going to like the second one. So he was thrown out at first. Second time up, bottom of the 6th, he's leading off. We're down by 1. So I told him, "Only swing at balls in the strike zone, and then RUN to first." He fouled back Ball 4, then he hit a pretty sharp ball past the third baseman. It was one of those 2-bouncer deals that 70% of the kids in that league aren't catching. He must have been thinking about what I said (Run to first!) because he wasn't listening to his coaches. He was ready to stop at first. Meanwhile, the left fielder FINALLY threw it in, and my son FINALLY got to second base. The next batter came up, and a pitch or two into that at-bat, the catcher threw it right past the pitcher. (Not allowed to steal on this play, by the way.) My dingus of a kid ALMOST took 2 steps over to get the ball. What a great way to get called out, eh? Anyway, he ended up scoring the tying run because the opposing pitcher walked a bunch of our players and we won.

I know other people have great stories of their kids hitting home runs and winning all-star tournaments and stuff. I'm just glad my kid didn't step off the base to fetch the ball for the other team.
