Kirby Puckett (MLB HOF, R.I.P.)

so what? Good for them. It's pretty pathetic when somebody dies and all they talk about is how great they were, when maybe, just maybe, they weren't. I call it the "Richard Nixon syndome." When he died, the networks acted as if one of the greatest presidents died.

I actually agree here...Puckett was a great baseball player, but his life was not even close to as clean as portrayed during his playing days. His passing is an unfortunate event, but to simply forget his adultery and physical abuse is misguided.

Baseball lost one of its great players and ambassadors of the game last night. I know the city of Minnesota feels the loss today. What a great player and what I will always remember from Kirby is that he always had a smile on his face.

God Bless.

Ah.. yes... the city of Minnesota.:wink2:

Anyway... I was never a big fan... but.. he was a hell of a player and... he may not have been a hell of a person... maybe he was... I really don't know... but... too young... much too young.

For 24 hours? Seems to me that the family ought to at least get one day without a public lashing of their recently deceased son/brother/sister/husband/wife/whatever, but maybe that's just me.

Nice to see him make a positive contribution with organ donation.

Sure, I can see that, but at the same time, he is a public figure who made some serious mistakes...maybe its just my personal beliefs here, but I rank hitting a woman right up there at the top of unforgivable sins. I can see your point of view completely, but I just see it differently in this circumstance.

I see both sides of the argument but just b/c someone dies doesn't mean they become a hero.

People die everyday.

His rap sheet was part of who he was, should it define him, no, should it be part of his biography, yes.

I really agree with you and Thump here...I also put domestic violence way, way up there on the chart...completely unforgivable, and in the end, anyone telling the story of the legacy of Kirby Puckett needs to include that with all of the accolades from teammates and Minnesota. I just think one day for the family not to be reminded of it while making funeral arrangements is not too much to ask. For the record, in no way am I saying you are wrong or crass...just a difference of opinion.
