Bryant re-signs with Los Angeles Lakers: report

July 15, 2004
LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Kobe Bryant, who won three NBA titles in the past five years, has reportedly re-signed with the Los Angeles Lakers .

ESPN television said terms were not disclosed but Bryant reportedly received a seven-year deal worth about 136 million dollars.

Bryant had to choose between the Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers who were offering a six-year contract at 100 million dollars.

The Lakers declined to confirm or deny the deal was done.

The signing comes just one day after the Lakers traded disgruntled giant Shaquille O'Neal to the Heat for forwards Lamar Odom, Brian Grant, Caron Butler and a future first-round pick.

Projected Laker line-up:

PG - Gary Payton
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - Caron Butler
PF - Lamar Odom
C - Brian Grant

...and I'm not convinced they won't go out and get a guy like Dampier to help out in the middle. Looks like a pretty good team to me. They haven't done as much to help themselves as the Jazz, Suns, or Nuggets, but I think they'll be pretty good this year (assuming Kobe does just get a slap on the wrist).
