Northmont’s Kurt Coleman has all the tools that college scouts are looking for in a defensive back prospect. Coleman checks in at 5’11 1/2, 185 pounds. Kurt, who is one of the top ten prospects in the state of Ohio, has major scholarship offers from Ohio State, Notre Dame, Purdue, Wisconsin, Boston College, Kansas State, and West Virginia. He is also receiving interest from many of the other top football programs around the nation.

“The big asset that the guys on the next level see is not only can he play safety he can play corner as well. So he is one of those guys who is not just locked in at one position in the defensive backfield. The ability at both of those positions is a big asset, and the fact that he just makes plays,” said Thunderbolts coach Lance Schneider.

Coleman is also a great tackler coming up from any defensive back spot.

“He is a big-hitter.” When asked about Coleman’s performance in the Piqua game Coach Schneider responded, “That game he knocked out their whole starting backfield. Coming downhill on the option and knocking the heck out of people.”

Coleman is also a playmaker.

“He had 10 interceptions for us last year on defense and returned two for touchdowns. Offensively he played a little bit for us at receiver, this year he is going to play a lot for us. He is one of those guys that when he gets the football in his hands he is going to make something happen, that is for sure.”

In limited action on the offensive side of the ball Coleman scored on almost half of his touches at wide out. On only 15 receptions Coleman scored an astonishing 7 times.

Coleman not only has great speed, he is also a strong performer in the weight-room.

“He runs a 4.4 forty, and 4.2 pro-shuttle time. He is in our 1200-pound club, which is bench, squat and dead-lift totals combined. He power cleans over 250. He has a 36-inch vertical. He is a stud there is no other way around it,” said Coach Schneider.

Coleman probably has two schools at the top of his list, Ohio State and Miami (FL). “Ohio State is probably in the lead right now, being from Ohio, and he really wants his parents to see him play. The only other school he has a lot of interest in is Miami (FL).” He said if they offered he would have to sit down and weigh the two schools out.”

One thing is for sure; whoever lands the services of this Ohio super-star will be getting one of, if not the best defensive back in the nation.
