Northmont's Kurt Coleman may be the Buckeye States top defensive back prospect. I recently had the oppurtunity to catch up with Kurt regarding a couple of key aspects involving his recruitment.

On the field, Coleman excels at both free safety and cornerback, although he may not have a preference on which he plays in college.

"It is really a toss up. I like free safety where I can pound people down or just lay back and pick off the ball, but I feel like if someone needs to be stopped at the wide receiver position, you can just tell me to play him and he is done."

Coleman intends to show his skills at a few summer camps.

"I think I will be going to Tennessee. I will definitely be going to Ohio States camp. I am going to try to go to Kansas States. I want to go to a couple of schools that are interested in me, just to show them what I can do."

Kurt wants to play close to his family, but distance may not be a factor in his decision.

"I want to stay close for my family, but I also want to branch out by myself. It would be very tough for me to leave my family."

Kurt also recently had the chance to attend the Ohio States campus for an un-official visit.

"I loved it! The facilities are amazing! They are getting a whole new weight room. The whole coaching staff is just phenomenal. I could not be anymore pleased(with the visit)."

I also asked Kurt what he thought about a couple of schools that are the front runners for landing his services. Miami and Ohio State.

On Miami Kurt had this to say, "Growing up that was my dream team to play for. It is pretty much a toss up if they offer. I really like Sean Taylor. I love the way he just kills people, and he can still stay back and pick off the ball at any time. I aso like Ed Reed's style of play."

Kurt had this to say regarding his affinity towards Ohio State.

"I love their program. It is just a great program. They have great tradition, which is very important to me. They have a strong team year in and year out. Plus I have family that goes there. I love the coaching staff. Coach Fickell is recruiting me for Ohio State. He is a great guy. I feel I can be a great contributor to the team."

So it is Ohio State and Miami leading the pack for Kurt Coleman. Who was he rooting for in the 2002 national championship game?

"I was definitely a fan of Miami."
