LaDainian Tomlinson (NFL HOF)

NFBuck

Total Coverage.
  • Is the season he's having right now the best season for one player in NFL history? Watching him and seeing the highlights is amazing. He's my favorite (non Buckeye) player in the NFL. Hearing his interviews, he's so humble and is so knowledgeable and respectful of NFL history. Reminds me of Troy a lot when I hear him talk. What's everyone's thoughts on LT? Anyone think he may go down as the best RB in NFL history when he's done? He's just seems to get better and better with each season.

The best season in NFL history. That's a hard one. Jerry Rice - Payton-Simpson-Sanders-Theisman-Jim Brown, so many others.
He is having a great season. Is part of it that the offense is geared to him?
I don't beleive I am ready to crown him yet.
The best RB of all time? He might be closer at that one. Man how can you replace Sweetness? It is hard to let go of those who already are regarded highly. Many believe Jim Brown is the best there will ever be, and it is hard to deny that. I think for now I will stick with Payton.

LT would not be the same back if he was drafted by the Browns... could he put up the same numbers if he played in cold weather, who knows? I like him and I think if he wins a SuperBowl he will be well on his way to being considered on of the better backs to play the game... I think it's too hard to compare backs from different eras but I think you could put up against backs like Marshall Faulk.

If LT had gone to the Browns we'd be comparing him to Travis Prentice, not Jim Brown.
I disagree with that....Barry Sanders proved that great running backs can still be great players on horrible teams...

But on LT....I think its still a little early to say greatest but by the time he is done we may be talking in the terms of a Jordan type (one that changed the game)

LT is having the best season of his career and the best season of anyone else in the NFL. Right now, he is the best player in the NFL but he is not having the best season of any player of all time. For a RB, yes he is having arguably the best season of any RB in the NFL. But the best season of all time? Perhaps Peyton Manning 2 years ago throwing 48 or whatever number it was touchdowns and breaking the record. That was a crazy season for Peyton. This is a very hard decision because there were so many outstanding players that had great seasons.

My prediction is that when LT is done playing football and is retired, he will be the best RB to ever play the game.

There never will be someone who is declared "the best RB to play the game". Different scenarios, offenses, eras, ect. are factored in when comparing him to the all time greats. I certainly think he is the best back in the game right now, hands down. He's making a hell of a run at being considered one of the best ever. He's on track to have the best season (statistically) that a RB has ever had in NFL history. It's hard to compare him to a Smith, Sanders, Payton, Sayers, Campbell, Brown, ect. because they all played in different eras, with a different supporting cast. He certainly has earned the right to be mentioned in the same breath as those I listed above though.......

I haven't been around for long, but the two best backs I've seen are Barry Sanders and Ladanian. LDT might be the most complete football player I have ever seen. There isn't anything he doesn't do well. He seems like a stronger, faster Marshall Faulk.

LT is the closesest thing to Payton I.ve seen, like WP he runs catches throws and blocks. If he can show me the durability(Payton missed only 1 game in his career and that was in his rookie season) he may surpass him. The bestpure runner I've seen was Jim Brown. JB wasn't as complete as WP or Lt but he could run the football.

Thats because he couldnt ever win a super bowl with the lions. The chargers are super bowl material and if LT and the chargers win a super bowl, at the end of LT's career it could put him higher than BS.

Hypothetically speaking, if LT and Barry Sanders ended up with the same number of rushing yards and same number of touchdowns, but LT has 1 Super Bowl ring and Barry has none, who would you take to be better? LT and maybe only because he has the Super Bowl Ring and Barry doesn't, but that's what can seperate two outstanding players.

I guess Sanders should have tried harder....

Winning a Superbowl always helps... like I said I don't think you can compare eras and fairly say who was greatest of all time but so far Sanders is the best back I have ever seen in my lifetime with Sweetness a close second. The things Barry did on the field I don't think we'll ever see again.

10z - I would take Barry. I think it is MORE impressive that he did those things with not much of a team behind him. That guy WAS the Lions for all those years while LT has (so far) a good supporting cast around him.

Very true, you have a good point about what he did on a sucky team.
