Ladies and gentlemen, I've been to Dell and back, and this is my story...

Alright.... I just got my new Sony Vaio Media Center PC delivered yesterday and am having a similar problem to what Clarity was having.

I'm going to be using my 57'' Sony HD ready big screen as the monitor. You would think that everything would work with no problem right? WRONG! First... the PC showed up without a power cable... okay, no big deal. I'll just run to the store and get one and while I'm there I'll get a DVI cable so I can connect my PC to my TV with that in one of the HD ports on my TV. I get home and hook everything up and no display. So I mess around with everything for a little bit and finally get a picture using an S-Video adapter hooked to a regular coax cable, okay I'm making progress but not enough. I change settings and do this and that but no HD signal from my DVI port so I call Sony Support. BIG mistake!

After answering 15 questions from a recording I finally get to speak with someone at their "help" desk, who in turn asks the same 15 questions along with some new ones. When she asked what the problem was I told her that I was trying to hook my HD TV up to my PC with a DVI cable and I was getting no signal. Guess what she said next...
"It is my understanding that you are trying to record a TV show to your PC. Am I correct?"
What the fuck!?!?!
"NO! I want to use my TV as my Monitor and connect it to my PC with a DVI cable"
She then says "what type of cable are you using sir?"
My response was "a DVI cable"
she then says " I mean is it a composite video cable or an s-video cable?"
At this point I am already starting to get very frustrated because it is evident that this person at their "help desk" has no common sense or technical training and is not going to be any help at all. Over the next two hours I am on the phone with this lady and get nowhere. She tries to tell me that there are 3 types of DVI cables and that I must be using the wrong one. No there isn't... there are different types of DVI signals though. Finally I get fed up and tell her that she has been a waste of my time and a failure to her company and tell her that I will call back tomorrow to speak with someone who is more knowledgeable than she is. I decided to send Alienware an email to see what they can do for me since Clarity had such an easy time with them. Hopefully I will too.

Because the PC is a media center and I'm going to use it for everyhing... watching movies, DVD's, TV, DVR... everything. Why spend the money on a monitor when I have a 57'' one in my livingroom and I can watch TV and be on the net at the same time?

No language barrier... unless you mean that she was the biggest fucking hick that I've ever talked to. Had to be Donny's mom

Rereading this, I see what really happened: Clarity got four employees of Dell made gone. Either they quit because he picked on them mercilessly (bastard!). - Or - Because he talked to them on a first name basis (what a nice guy!) , got them fired for chatting with a friend while they were supposed to be working.

Why are you guys buying from strangers? I may be a stranger, but I work for a Fortune 1000 company that distributes technology products and manufactures PCs, notebooks, and servers. To top it off, our tech. support and manufacturing facility is located right here in Ohio--not far from Dayton.

I'd be glad to give any fellow Buckeyes a discount on PCs or technology products, just let me know how to get in touch with you and what you're looking for.
