Last Chance U (Netflix Series)

NFBuck

Total Coverage.
  • Anybody else watch this? It focuses on the 2015 season of East Mississippi CC, in Scooba, MS. The Lions were the 2011, 2013, and 2014 JC National Champions who never got a shot to defend their title due to events that unfolded during their season. The coach is a foul-mouthed hard-ass, a lot of behind the scenes stuff is shown, including the academic struggles of the players. Some interesting insight into the JC recruiting-process is featured. It also features John Franklin III, an FSU transfer (a RS Freshman on their 2013 NC team) who is ultimately recruited/signed by Auburn, and last I saw their expected starting QB this fall.

Really good show. It's only six episodes, and I breezed through it over the past three nights.

Some East MS CC alumni include LaGarrette Blount, current Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly, and former Ole Miss QB Bo Wallace. Also, former WVU QB Clint Trickett is the QB Coach.

Just watched the whole thing last night--was going to mention it in the "what are you watching on TV" thread.

Thought it was a really interesting look behind the curtain. Still processing what I think about the way the coach handled the disastrous fracas. You can see their player actually being repeatedly kicked on the ground, so, good question: what are his teammates supposed to do when the refs (and the opposing coaches) lose all control? How long would that have continued if no one had intervened? Until he needed an ambulance?

Gotta say, too, the EMCC HC seems to have a little Woody in him, letting his temper get his own butt suspended two games earlier that season. :)

It's quite good. I hope they continue to do this show, if not at EMCC, somewhere else.

Yeah, I binged it over my week-end in. Certainly an intimate peek into the processes behind forming a football team. EMCC is gonna miss Wagner. Someone with all her qualities is going to be hard-to-near-impossible to replace. They might find a person who can do the job technically, but finding another candidate who'd bring her emotional investment--well, that's about as likely as having a walk-on end up winning the Heisman.

Yeah, she seemed like the glue that kind of held them together off the field. I can't imagine how frustrating/stressful her job must have been. Trying to get those kind of kids to go to class and put in the work to remain eligible seemed like she was herding cats.

Just finished Season 2. I'm sure I'm not the only one, but DeAndre Johnson is a stud. Unfortunate he made the mistake he made, but he seems to be on the path to redemption. I'll be very interested to watch an FAU game or two this season, to see how he adapts to D-1 ball. Was also very impressed with Dakota Allen, as I thought he was the defense's best player.
