You hush your whore mouth!

I really dug it as a kid...of course the 'fantasy' pickings were pretty slim at the time. You want awful? Watch Ator: The Fighting Eagle & Deathstalker or Hawk the Slayer sometime.

If you need a redeeming quality ... Liam Neeson.

The only reason I watched it was because it said "An early role for Liam Neeson" at the very bottom of the On-Demand summary. I did enjoy seeing his younger version wielding an axe though. I'm usually a big fan of these types of movies, even though they were before my time, but this one just didn't do it for me. Probably one of the only 'fantasy' films from that era I haven't enjoyed so far.

I will be looking into those movies ASAP. I'm a sucker for atrocious 80's movies. The comical value is enough for me alone, but the music is also very entertaining to me.

For instance, I'm listening to the soundtrack to Bloodsport right now because it's incredibly amusing. Also one of my favorite movies too.

Ator was the absolute worst movie I've ever seen in a theater.
The boss fight scene at the end makes Robin Williams' Popeye vs the Octopus look like special effects wizardry.

Hawk the Slayer has some awesome elf speed archery that puts Legolas to shame.

I honestly don't know why Krull clicked for me as a kid, but it did stand out compared to some of it's contemporaries.

Others to keep an eye out for:
The Archer: Fugitive from the Empire - TV movie that was supposed to serve as the pilot for an ongoing series. Sadly it was cancelled. :(
The Sword and the Sorcerer - Three bladed rocket sword baby!...oh & Bull from Night Court.
Sword of the Valiant - Sean Connery as the Green Knight is about the only worthwhile bit.
The Warrior & The Sorcerers - David Carradine (playing a guy named Kain, go figure) and lots & lots of boobies.

While not technically fantasy:
Steel Dawn - Patrick Swayze in post apocalyptic sword & sandals action.
Flesh + Blood - Rutger Hauer as a mercenary in the early 1500s.

These sound absolutely awesome. I'm looking into them as we speak. These are even a little bit before my older brothers time, so I would've never been able to see any of these growing up. I'm pumped that I've got some new entertainment coming my way.

Another early 80's one I just recently watched that I didn't really care for either was Excalibur. I remember watching it when I was a kid, but it didn't really resonate for me like Krull did either. I did enjoy the fact that Patrick Stewart was in it though.

However, a couple of later 80's movies I recently watched & thoroughly enjoyed were To Live and Die in L.A. & The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. I was shocked to see Uma Thurman in the latter. That had to be one of her first movies if I had to guess.

The only two I can buy & watch On-Demand are Steel Dawn & Flesh + Blood, so those will be the first two I watch as I download the others. I'm really looking forward to this.

Excaliber certainly had it's problems but there was a lot to like about it too. Not just Captain Picard but Richard Bucket (Clife Swift) from Keeping Up Appearances as Ector? Awesome! More Liam Neeson. Gabriel Byrne, Ciaran Hines & a young, hot Helen Mirren.

In an error were fantasy props were terrible they were wearing plate harness that was reasonably accurate (up until the mirror polished bit). The judicial duel between Lancelot & Gawain with half-swording relatively realistics estocs.

The final ride to battle with O Fortuna blaring (amidst a Fisher King metaphor)...hell yes!

I rewatched a couple of movies recently just to see if they stood the test of time:

1. Sneakers w/ Redford, Poitier, and Kingsley. Definitely holds up especially given the NSA issues that we are currently facing. Very prophetic movie.

2. Varsity Blues. Nope. Horrendous film. Fun for the teenager and the whipcream scene is re-watchable x1000. But any film in which the teenagers are portrayed to far surpass the adults in maturity is so far above and beyond realism as to border on the absurd. Compare Moxon to his father. It's a joke.

3. Basic Instinct. It's hard to get beyond the sex scenes (which do, of course, stand the test of time), but it's still an intriguing psychological thriller. Michael Douglas really aged in the past 20 years though.

 Very nearly a great movie. Sneakers is so underrated, and that cast is an all-timer: they obviously had a ton of fun making that movie. Redford is always good as the CIA man who goes his own way.

Awesome movie. Really enjoyed this one, Muck. Thanks for the recommendation. Left me feeling much pity for poor Tark though. Couldn't control my laughter when seeing Arnold Vosloo on the screen.....every time he appeared. Something about him being one of Damnil's thugs just overwhelmed me. On to Flesh + Blood.
