Big fan of Dennis Lehane and yet it somehow took me until just recently to see Gone Baby Gone. Phenomenal. Other's I've recently watched:

Blue Ruin...highly recommend, especially after having seen Green Room. Macon Blair is a great actor.
High-Rise...very A Clockwork Orange-esque. Didn't hate it, didn't love it.
Passengers...give it a solid B+. Typical blockbuster acting and ending but worth seeing.

Getting ready to see Live by Night (reviews have been disappointing), Gone Girl (have already seen it but looking forward to seeing it again), Eye in the Sky, The Accountant and I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - felt it was one of the best JK Rowling flicks.. in the Harry Potter genre
Disorder (Maryland) - worth your time; ex-soldier with PTSD hired to protect family; foreign with sub-titles

Hacksaw Ridge is everything it is hyped to be; well acted
Moana would definitely be something the very young would enjoy
Manchester by the Sea - meh, jumps all over the place; OK; Casey Affleck was very good
Arrival - not so much; spacecraft arrives on earth
Florence Foster Jenkins - worst of Streeps career

Bought the digital download of 2001 on the AppleTV since it was in the sub-$5 catalog this week. My favorite film of all time.

The revelation that HAL9000 can read lips just before the Intermission title card comes up is still my favorite, "Uh oh, this crew is fucked!" moment, ever.

Enjoying some long-coming time off here over the last week.....

Field of Dreams -- yeah, I cried. It was ugly. Fuck you.
Platoon
Life is Beautiful

The Nice Guys -- loved this one. Ryan Gosling + Russell Crowe in a 70s buddy-cop type movie and stuff.
Independence Day: Resurgence -- what a colossal pile of monkey poo. Just terrible. It makes Jurassic World look like Amelie by comparison.

Watched Jack Frost 2 Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman with the kids. Great Bad movie.

In case you missed it, here are some highlights.

Also watched "Under the Skin" with Scarlett Johansson. It is supposed to be a great Science Fiction film. I liked it but cannot recommend it.

It received a number of solid reviews to my amazement. The trailer team for that movie should never work in that industry again. It looked horrible.

Not sure I'll watch it for awhile but I hope to be surprised.
