Spiderman: Homecoming

9/10. Loved almost everything about it.

I liked it too. Favorite of the six "Spider-Man" movies released.

I do wish they'd go with even younger actors/actresses to simulate high school even more, but that's nitpicking (and they're closer than previous versions).

I spent part of the movie wondering what is/was the "Best Sandwich in Queens".

Age wise, Tom Holland is obviously beyond high school. But the kid looks young as shit. He easily passes for a high schooler.

This is the Ultimate Spiderman audience we're targeting here. I can't picture another other alternate universe Spidey fitting within the current MCU. Also helps with his age being young(er) that he'll now be one of the few 'core' characters that is likelyto survive the coming phase 3 onslaught. (No pun intended)

Watched Fate of the Furious. Not really anything worth mentioning, but if you get stuck on E 6th in the vicinity of Superior in Cleveland best to keep moving.

Sadly I walk through there every day for coffee.

Dude just turned 21...I mean they could go real high schooler but he seems to fit the bill....

Finally saw Edge of Tomorrow.

Interesting, comedic and fun despite... nah... because of rampant death (and I'm not a big fan of gore). Tom Cruise is his usual master of blockbuster theatrics.

Really interesting alien CGI as well. Not an all timer but definitely worth watching.

I saw Dunkirk in 70MM. It's very good. Nothing sentimental or rah-rah about it. It's a bleak look at war. It doesn't follow a linear time progression though, so it'a a lot like one's first run through Pulp Fiction and can be confusing at moments.

Absolutely agreed. I know it's getting mixed some mixed reviews for various reasons, but I thought it was excellent. Hans Zimmer's score was outstanding and the dogfight scenes were incredible. It was intense and had me extremely....I guess anxious is the word?

I've seen complains over lack of character development, but I don't buy that even a bit. There wasn't supposed to be character development....this wasn't a melodramatic tear-jerker war movie....soldier dies, end scene, next scene. No drawn-out tearful goodbyes.

Being Nolan, I wasn't surprised by it, but the disjointed chronology definitely threw me out of sorts -- I didn't even get what they had done until after the film.

Absolutely worth the price to see it in Imax at the theater.

Headed over to see the Dark Tower here in a couple hours. I'll report back about the size of the pile of poo they took on King's world. My hopes are high, but my expectations are low.

Huh. That actually was not bad. I'm sure if I had read the series more recently, I might have more issues, but the ending of the series certainly provided the flexibility needed to make this movie. If the book series ended differently, I would have absolutely hated this film, but I can live with this.

Some complaints, but nothing super huge. Idris Elba is a badass so that worked for me in this setting. I didn't love McConaghy, but I didn't hate him either.

Overall, a decent movie....especially compared to some of the other train wrecks that have come out of King adaptions.

Anxious to see if they do justice to IT

Given some of the nods in the trailer - like Pennywise being a shape shifter, I'm willing to venture that it tops the original in terms of adhering to the source material. As for Skarsgard being a better clown than Curry...? I don't necessarily look at it in that light. I'm looking for the two to contrast each other in the same mold people view Ledger vs Nicholson. Do they deliver a performance in the mold of the film they're within? Curry was a bit campy and used stupid humor... I presume the new Pennywise will be more violent and have a much darker sense of humor.

Empire of the Sun

Loved it, and of course a brilliant score by John Williams. Cadillac of the Skies is one of my favorite tracks of his that I could listen to on repeat for a good while. Continuing my quest to watch all the Spielberg/Williams films tomorrow probably, with Seven Years in Tibet.

EDIT: Damnit, I thought Seven Years was Spielberg, but it isn't. Oh well, still probably going to watch it because John Williams.
