I will always be thankful for Tom leading the way out of the abyss that was 80's music with his collaboration in the Traveling Wilburys and Full Moon Fever.
Alright stuff and more popular for radio play, but not his best work IMHO. I like his early music the best. Although, I do find it is good to be king of your own little world...

I've seen, live, pretty much everyone I've ever wanted... and then some more that I just kind of went to see because 'I should.'

Every year or so I think through that short list of those that I've not seen but want to see. I'm kinda beyond seeing the 'I should see' performers.

Just this summer I mentioned to my wife that TP was one of two last performers that I wanted to see but hadn't.

Sadly, I didn't see him before he passed, and the other band, Jawbreaker, was just in Chicago playing Riot Fest and I blew that off.

I'm a total shit head.

I may just get on a plane to see Jawbreaker at this point. I don't want to have this feeling again. I was a casual TP fan, but always respected his work and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've also been a huge Rickenbacker fan for longer than I can remember. Perhaps that was one of the things that drew me to his music. It's incredible he toured with them as much as he did given how relatively fragile they are...

He was, without a doubt, one of a kind. For those of you who were huge fans, I'm sorry for your loss.

Florida to honor the late Tom Petty at Saturday’s game vs. LSU

Music legend and Gainesville native Tom Petty went into cardiac arrest early Monday morning and, after unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate him, was pronounced dead later that day at the age of 66. As Florida’s prepares for its game against LSU Saturday afternoon in The Swamp, the football program announced plans to honor Petty’s memory.

From the school’s release:

At the end of the third quarter, after the UF band plays “We Are the Boys from Old Florida” and fans lock arms and sway as they sing the UF spirit song, Petty’s famous tune “I Won’t Back Down” will blast across Steve Spurrier/Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to honor a local legend treasured by Gator Nation and far beyond.
