Author of my favorite childhood book, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, has passed at 104 years old. Beverly Cleary. Henry Huggins, Ramona the Pest, demanding little sister of Beezus, awkward and outcast Garth and his biker buddy Ralph S. Mouse; these were friends I could relate to when life was a bit too much for a third grader (and 4th and 5th and 6th and 7th). I join your many millions of young readers to say thank you for giving me another set of friends to grow up with.

NPR interview with her for her 90th b-day.

Edit: shout out to Louis Darling, long time illustrator of her books. His scratchy ink style made sense to me and gave me the confidence to think I could be an artist.

His family’s statement said DMX, whose birth name was Earl Simmons, died with relatives by his side after several days on life support.

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart, and we cherish the times we spent with him,” the family said, adding that his music “inspired countless fans across the world, and his iconic legacy will live on forever.”

We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl's music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.

Well that blows...not as much as DMX.....but still surprising. Saw Shock G in an interview talking about I think Salt N pepa or maybe Tupac or something. I think it was Tupac now that I think of it. It was an interesting snippet.

The English royalty I could give two fucks about..never understood the fascination there.
