Latest Eddie George Update

Hmm... Rooting for the Cowboys... Gonna be tough. Didn't Eddie Grow up an Eagles fan?

Hmmm? I'll try.

Of course Ashlandbuck's been looking for a reason to get back on the Big D badwagon since they cut his boy Timmy Seder.

#1- Relax man!

Don't worry... I don't know if you've been trolling around here long.. but if you stick around, you'll notice that Tibor is very apt to make off the wall sarcastic comments... they generally don't have much to do with anything when he jsut fires them off.... Don't worry about it... because see... to Tibor, there is great irony in the fact that Mike Wiley is no longer a Cowboy, yet he still hopes Eddie can beat him out... see... that's what we call Rashmish humor.

Sorry Tibs... I just was worried how he would react when you really got going.

All I know is I'm not touching that bet with Clarity, because the depth chart before he got there has Julius Jones, the rookie not even taken in round 1 as number one, and some jabronis named Aveion Carson, ReShard Lee, and Eric Bickerstaff. Parcells will work Eddie until he can't be worked anymore on first and second down, as well as 3rd and 1 and in the red zone, so he could have a huge year if he stays healthy.

I thought I'd heard (radio) that the base salary was 600 and some thousand (with additional incentive clauses that would/could raise that figure) with a 1.5 million dollar signing bonus.

Why the sarcasm Tibs? I suppose there is some reason that you dislike either Eddie or Michael Wiley? :shake:

George I guess will probably split carries between him and Julius Jones. They definitely want to more than get Jones' feet wet - he is the future. If he can prove he has more get up and go than George - he'll get 3/4 of the carries.

Also as far as the depth chart .
1. George?
1a. Jones?
3. Richie Anderson
4. Avion Cason
5. who cares.
I think Bickerstaff got hurt in training camp and he is done.

Anderson was going to be the 3rd down back and Jones was going to be the 1st and 2nd down guy. I'm guessing Andersons carries just went down a little bit, not much though. and those 1st and 2nd down carries are going to be evenly split - until and unless someone can prove to be far superior.

GOD -- THIS IS FREAKING AWESOME.

I am a bucks fan. I am a cowboys fan. My favorite buckeye of all time if George. I loved yelling " eddddddddddiiieeeeee" all season long. Now he is with my 'boys!!!!! how sweet.

memo to self - time to go get my #27 cowboys jersey!!!!!

He did pretty well for himself then. Not taking the $1.5 mil from the Titans meant they had to pay him the bonus that was due. So he got $1 mil from them. Then $1.5 mil from his alleged Dallas signing bonus. $600k base from them as well. That's $3.1 mil before incentives for this season. Albeit on a 1 year contract, but he has an opportunity to revitalize his career a bit in Dallas, and if he proves himself, I'm sure Tuna will consider having him stick around another year or two until he's ready to retire. Eddie's a major plus in the locker room and off the field by all accounts, and he can only serve as a terrific reference for Julius Jones -- a back who I don't feel is anywhere near ready for a pro starting role.

I wanted Dallas for him because I thought that was his best chance to get a lot of carries. Philly probably would have been a better fit in all ways but that one, but I'm ecstatic he's with the Cowboys.

I just swore off of NFL Sunday Ticket last year. Looks like I'm going to want it back this year after all. Too many interesting stories in the league this year. Washington with Gibbs, Portis and Springs. Eddie with the Cowboys. Joey with the Bucs. Jamal Lewis, in or out? Warner mentoring Manning. TO in new digs. Jenkins catching balls over the middle from Vick. Etc. etc.

BSH,

We'll see. I know they want to get Jones' feet wet, but Parcells isn't and never has been crazy about playing rookies at skill positions unless he absolutely has to, which he now doesn't. Anderson is really a FB/H-back, so I don't expect him to get any carries really, but he'll be in on passing situations instead of Jamar, and he may lead block some too, though that has never been his strong suit going back to college (and carrying the ball wasn't either). Avion could play some 3rd too if he shows well in camp. As you are an Eddie fan like you say, look out, because he's a between-the-tackles guy that Parcells loves, and if he can take some pressure off Quincy, they will be very dangerous with that defense. I expect him to get 15-22 carries a game, with Jones getting 6-10 in relief after he picks up the offense in week 4 or 5, but that's just me. It will be a fun year to watch Dallas, whether one likes them or not.

I'm with you on that one...

Awesome post! To see an awesome back like Eddie George in a Cowboys Jersey is going to be sweet! Some compition for the starting spot has never hurt anybody. I think the quarterback situation is going to be just as good with Quincy and Vinny fighting it out. I know they are saying it is Quincy's starting job but don't put anything past Vinny. I think he still has some quality game play left!

This article seems to have the new numbers narrowed down moreso than most reports:

It's Official: Eddie George a Cowboy - Warpath (Insiders) FB

It's Official: Eddie George a Cowboy
By Derrick Crosby**
Date: Jul 23, 2004

It's official, former Tennessee Titan RB Eddie George is now a Dallas Cowboy. George, who has rushed for over 10,000 yards in his 8-year NFL career, comes to Dallas to provide depth at a position that sorely needs it.

One team's loss is another team's gain.

Eddie George, the second leading rusher in the National Football League since 1996, has signed what amounts to a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys just days after leaving the Tennessee Titans organization.

The deal is reported to be worth $2.2 million. The deal is also structured so that he could earn an additional incentives, including $2 million if he equals last year's production.
George will receive a signing bonus of $1.54 million and have a base salary of $660,000.
The former Ohio State star was scheduled to earn $4 million this season in Tennessee, but the Titans offered him only $1.5 million.

Insulted at the offer from a team that he helped carry throughout his 8-year career, George elected to go elsewhere.

As it turns out, "elsewhere" is Dallas.

George, who is considered by most to be one of the most physical inside runners in the league, has not averaged more than 3.4 yards per carry the last three years.

That 3.4 number was one of the primary reasons the Titans weren't interested in offering George the kind of money he was looking for.

As a former Heisman Trophy winner in 1995, George has earned four trips to the Pro Bowl, but none since 2000.

While he's dependable to pick up first downs in short yardage situations, or touchdowns near the goal line, the Titans offense was unable to consistently depend on George to break his runs into the open field on first and second down.

George said Wednesday that he was impressed with what Bill Parcells and several of his former running backs near the end of their career- especially Ottis Anderson.

"What he was able to do with Ottis Anderson's career – he won two Super Bowls with him – is pretty intriguing," George said Wednesday evening.

The press conference announcing George's signing will be held at Valley Ranch at 12:00.

It will be a cold, cold, cold day in hell when I ever root for the pukes no matter how many Buckeyes are there. That team is the same as scUM in my eyes and that's never gonna change. A Buckeye win and a weasel loss makes my day on Saturday and a Skins win and a puke loss on Sunday has the same affect.

I know, I know, I know...the Skins haven't done shit in recent years. But that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
