LaTwan Anderson (official thread)

Still don't think he would've been a starter, and certainly not the "one missing piece that would have made this defense unstoppable".

Might not have made us unstoppable, but I think we'd have a Fiesta bowl win from last year. That final TD play with 16 seconds left right over the middle... it's not unreasonable to think that a player of the caliber Clifford was expected to be wouldn't have blown that coverage.

Unfair to the players on that defense - they've all proven more than Clifford did.

I don't think Clifford would've made much of a difference. That's not meant to be an insult to him, but rather a compliment to our defense. Last season's defense was nasty. Could he have made us better? Sure, maybe. But he wasn't even around so it doesn't matter.

I think people are just trying to make a point that a top of the line safety to play next to Coleman would've made a significant difference for us, not necessarily that it had to be Clifford. In other words, trying to make a case that a player like Latwan could prove pretty invaluable for us down the road.

Clifford was having an awesome spring before he screwed up and punched his ticket out of town. Considering Russell got benched in favor of Hines (who wasn't necessarily as good of a deep safety as Anderson last year), no doubt in my mind Clifford would've been starting in 2009 if not at some point during 2008. Like was said, not like there was anything wrong with our defense last year anyhow.

Back to LaTwan though....I don't see how he's not of a "need" position since the only potential centerfielding free safeties on the roster are the unproven Johnson and Barnett, and maybe Wood. Anderson has great ball skills and is explosive with the ball, I think there's definitely a place for him on this team if Tressel wants him. I'm not too worried about the "fitting in" part, I don't think he'll want to the be only guy not fitting in if he comes here.

Not sure Clifford was going to be a top of the line safety. He had the potential, but obviously didn't have the head on his shoulders to stick around to live up to his abilities. I have no idea how he's done since he transferred.

Latwan could be a great player, might not be. One thing I can say for sure is that it's rare that we don't have four DBs on the field at any given time who can make plays like few secondaries in the conference, or even country. I'm pretty confident that we'll be right back on track with or without Latwan.

I feel strongly that:

1. No one or two or three recruits are going to make or break a program like OSU.

2. Championships are won and lost the first week in February.

As long as both of these two statements continue to be true we will continue to have these endless arguments about how badly we need players like LA.

As for the tote bag and year's supply of twizzlers.

I got my tote bag and it was chock full of twizzlers. But anybody who thinks that was a years supply doesn't know how to fill out a pair of size 44 slacks.

Reminds me of the time I got ripped off by Chik-fil-A.

I won a "years supply" of free milk shakes. But when I stopped in to claim my prize what do you think they have me? 52 coupons!!!

Chik-fil-A is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. 52 coupons didn't get me through 18 days.

I swear the server for this site is located in Nigeria.

I agree with Milwood on this one. Can't put his High School measurables on the table and assume that he'll be great, or even better than anyone we already have.

And, by the way. How do the words "defense" and "unstoppable" even appear in the same sentence? I guess I'm just curious, but what exactly is an "unstoppable defense" and what can an "offense" do to keep them from being "unstoppable?" :oh:

Peace

I can't remember if Texas had a TO left (I think they did). Even if the tackle's made, it's either a first down and the clock stops (still over 20 seconds left IIRC) or they take their TO, with their ball around our 20 yard line. They still would've had some shots to score a TD.

They had two timeouts left.

I understand from listening to Rivals Radio last week that LA was to make a trip to lane change la la land over the weekend, do we know if lil kiff and Eddie-o were able make him their valentine or not?

Dis they even get an opportunity to run, jump, holler, and rip off clothing?

I don't know about bitterness. But I do know he was at the ceremony dinner thing like 2 weekends ago with a bunch of 2010 signees and 2011 recruits.

From Latwan, he is considering WVU, USC, Ohio State, and Michigan. From other things that should only be treated as rumors and hearsay, OSU isn't an option for him.
