LB Austin Spitler (official thread)

FWIW Bellbrook is a LOT bigger than it was 10-15 years ago. Sugar Creek Township is one of the fastest growing suburbs of Dayton (ie their taxes haven't caught up to Beavercreek, Centerville etc yet). I don't know what their total enrollment is but it is many times larger than in the past. The new high school is pretty big compared to the old one.

Doesn't matter, Muck...Bellbrook is no where near the size of Centerville's HS...it was just a response to the poster that implied Centerville was small.
Yeah, not counting the monster Catholic schools (Iggy & St X primarily) and the districts that refuse to split because they place good athletics over good education (*cough* Pickerington & Mentor *cough*) 'Ville is about as big as it gets.

Strangely enough they aren't the biggest school in the GWOC...believe it or not that honor falls to Fairmont (go figure).

To put it in perspective Bellbrook is about the same size as Chaminade Julienne, Maple Heights, Cincy McNick, Cleveland Benedictine or Graham. That's probably double what they were ten years ago. Give them ten more years and Bellbrook will be up there with the other big Dayton schools.

I just watched Austin's videos on BN. What a talent. He's an MLB all the way. The defense Bellbrook plays is a split 4 man DL with Austin playing a tight MLB with some nose tackle assignments. Really reminded me of Spielman when he first came to OSU. Skinny but muscular, rangy, hardnose kid that loves contact. I don't want to sound too dramatic and say he IS the next Spielman, I'm just saying, the boy has skills. His 40 time is listed at around 4.7, I'd say he's more like 4.6 or so. The lines he was playing against weren't all that big, but he does show ability to fight off bigger blockers at the college level.

I can see him fighting for a starting spot in 2006.

i think duane said that he ran a 4.71 at camp with a sore ankle, but was clocked at 4.6 at school.

There is still no film of Spitler on any recruiting site.
There is now. Bucknuts has some clips of Spitler and I am impressed. Physical and busts up the ISO with abandon. Very similar video to Lauriniatis, IMO, although I would give a slight edge in speed to Lauriniatis.

Just when the LB position was looking bleak for the 2006 season, we're starting to reload. Freeman, Hoobler, and anyone from this class could be nasty. It'll be young/talented LBs, a completely loaded defensive line, Youboty/Ginn(Jenkins?) at CB, and Welch/O'Neal at S. I like the sounds of that defense.

Numbers wise from each of the MSL combines they attended these 2 are pretty damn close except when it comes to strength and size where Spitler has the advantage. I know #'s are just #'s, but it brought a smile to my face:biggrin:

Link to the #'s Austins was in cincy and Hodge in miami.

It may also be part of the reason why Hodge didn't seem to get much love from the Buckeye coaches during the last few days before his decision. Spitler and Laurinaitis may have taken Hodge's spot.

Don't forget Trever Robinson (RS frosh) and Curtis Terry (frosh) who played very well on special teams along with Freeman and Hoobler.
