North Point senior linebacker Conner Crowell - who recently committed to play football at Ohio State - broke his left ankle, dislocated his foot and tore ligaments in his foot during the Eagles' 4A East semifinal against Arundel on Friday.

Reached by phone Sunday, Crowell said he underwent surgery on Saturday, and doctors told him he can't walk on his injured leg for 10 weeks, and can't start running until March.

Sounding weary but optimistic, Crowell said he hopes to be ready to play by the time he leaves for college.

"Right now, I'm in my recovery stage," Crowell said.

The injury occurred in the first quarter of North Point's 28-17 loss to Arundel, when an Arundel defender tackled him low on a running play.

A dozen Division I schools offered Crowell a scholarship to play linebacker, but he also played regularly at running back for North Point.

"I ran a simple play and [the defender] didn't want to hit me high so he dove at my ankle and his helmet hit my foot," Crowell said. "My foot just twisted all the way around."

The game was delayed for about 15 minutes as Crowell was taken off the field on a stretcher.

Crowell said his father, Rich, contacted Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel over the weekend, and Conner planned to talk to Tressel this week.

Free Rivals - Surprise roster changes at Crab Bowl

Also missing was Ohio State three-star linebacker commit Conner Crowell. The loss of the 6-foot-1, 215-pound playmaker could be a tough one to overcome. Another Big Ten defensive commit was missing in action as well: Iowa safety pledge Nicholas Law. Both Crowell and Law are big, fast defenders who can cover and play the run well.

What a difference a year makes! Connor looked great before, but he REALLY turned his game up in the last 12 months.

He'll be joining that impressive list of award-winning 3* players at Ohio State by the time he moves on to the next level.

Let's hope so, I hear that the NCAA is considering putting constraints on how well 3* recruits can perform.

Apparently guys like AJ Hawk are screwing up sales of EA's NCAA video games.

Dude is athletic. He could play RB in college. He also has nice hands from the looks of that tape. I've seen tape of him and Depreist on the offensive side of the ball and he looks faster and quicker than Depresit, IMO. That will translate into his defensive play. He has the potential to be a great LBer here.

Good hips for a HS LB...love the tackle at the 1:00 mark. Would have loved to have seen what he could have done against some of the competition at one of the major all-star games. I think he is that good...
