Hmmm. This one concerns me a great deal.

What a luxury, a rare recruit that can pull off the luxury visit to Hawaii. They are stingy with those trips for obvious reasons.

I apologize that this has nothing to do with Crowell, but why in the heck can't Hawaii ever be a very good-excellent team? They have the most gorgeous scenerey and I'm sure a ton of kids would commit of of the weather, and they seem to have pretty decent facilities. Always boggled me, I'd jump at the chance of leaving Cincinnati for Hawaii, but hey that's just me.

Oh yeah, go Conner, hope to see him commit before his season starts

Probably because most kids are more concerned about getting into the NFL than having a Brazilian tan. :wink2:

i was listening to chris speilman talk about this not too long ago on the radio...saying that the reason Hawaii doesn't recruit like USC or other west coast schools is because the facilities are so bad...he talked about the practice field and weight room in particular

Cornerback6, very good point lol! But the NFL finds kids from all over the country and gets them in the league. Schools like Troy, Delaware and East Carolina have all sent a number of players to the league. There are a number of kids already from Hawaii that are in the NFL, always wondered why there weren't more. But I was just guessing from looking at their stadium that their facilities were decent. But if their practice field and weight room aren't too good, then that makes sense.

Aloha Stadium is a piece. It just happens to be in a great location!

This is true. It's the reason why they lost their Coach to SMU.

Yeah, they run a low budget operation -- here's former QB Colt Brennan complaining about no soap in the showers for all spring and having to pay $3 every day to park during practice, among other things.

That and the cost of every away game must be enormous. Can you imagine flying an entire football team, coaches, trainers, and equipment 5 hrs to the mainland 5 times a year? That must produce a huge strain on their budget.

Also, Hawaii is nice at first, but it gets really small really fast.

Hawaii is just about the worst-supported "major" college football program in the country. Facilities are a joke (my high school's facilities in the early '70s were better), there is minimal alumni donation support, and a huge portion of the fan base is bandwagon, not to mention the distance factor. And while UH has several good academic programs (oceanography, etc.), they're not exactly noted as a top-notch university.
