FRIDAY OCTOBER 18, 2013

  • Craig Fada starred at Watterson High School in Columbus before walking on at Ohio State. As a two-way player at linebacker and tight end, he helped the Eagles win the Division III state championship as a junior in 2010, and he was all-state as a senior. After not playing last season at OSU, he is a special-teams contributor this year.

An OSU scholar athlete, he is a son of Dr. Robert Fada, orthopedic surgeon at SportsMedicine Grant, a former offensive lineman at the University of Pittsburgh and for three years in the NFL.

Question: With your academic and athletic credentials, you could have gone a lot of places. Why walk on at Ohio State?

Answer: Growing up in this great state, why settle for something else? I knew I could have gone some other places and played my first year, but I would still have had that question in my mind: “Why didn’t I go all the way?”

Q: Are you glad you did?

A: I made the perfect choice. I knew coming in it wouldn’t be easy, and I am always up for a challenge. I’m growing each year, and this year I’m on special teams, and it’s just awesome getting on the field.

Q: Your dad is a well-known physician. Do you have a job of any sort?

A: During the summer, my brother and I have our own little landscaping business. We make some money on the side, mowing yards, planting stuff, anything we can do.

Q: Could you see that as your profession down the road?

A: I really want to become a doctor. That’s where I’m aiming long term.

Buckeyenation is very fortunate to have Fada. We would be in much worse shape depth wise. Also, Mitchell gets an extra year to figure the game out. Maybe Fada will someday have extensive playing time?
