Freddie chosen for AA game

Tarblooders chosen:

Glenville's Jamario O'Neal and Freddie Lenix, two of the premier high school football players in the nation, have been selected to play in the 2005 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Jan. 15 in San Antonio.

O'Neal, a 6-1, 180-pound cornerback and Ohio State recruit, is the top-rated player in the recent Ohio High Magazine. The 6-0, 195-pound Lenix, a linebacker, is ranked as the state's eighth-best player by Ohio High.

Lennix registered 11 solo tackles today in Glenville's 19-7 win over Akron Buchtel. The kid just makes plays. :osu:

Freddie Lenix, who finished with 11 solo tackles and three assists and ran five times for 20 yards. He also got off a punt of 60 yards and averaged 41 yards on four kicks.

"Freddie is a difference maker," Ginn said of Lenix, a 6-0, 195-pound senior who is regarded as one of the best linebackers in the country.

It seems there are a lot of rumors floating around that Lenix, curtis smith, tim connors, and possibly one other glenville senior are going to be a package deal to iowa. Gary Housteau over at BN alluded to this fact as well.

in all honestly, lennix is the only one with the potential for an osu offer. tim connor is not quite osu caliber, and curtis smith is borderline academically at best.

Iowa most be desperate to land Lennix, if they will even consider a package deal, the whole thing sounds crazy to me, scholies are important, would they give up three just to get one guy they wanted?

Don't know. If nothing else, to get an inroad into the glenville pipeline. Glenville usually pumps out 3 or 4 top notch D1 prospects every year. Perhaps Iowa thinks they can be a player for the next ginn, or o'neal that comes out of there.

Hey guys make no mistake Connors and Smith are D1 talent!!! They will move connors to the defensive backfield. Connors may not have the fastest 40 time but when you see him on film he may be the most elusive player Glenville has and that includes O'neal!!! Kirk Ferentz knows what he is looking for!!!

i never said smith and conner weren't D1 quality, only that they werent likely to get osu offers. smith is marginal academically at best, and osu already has a very nice DE crop. connor isnt going to play rb at osu. osu already has the db targets lined up as well, so connor is out of the mix. they are very good players, but not what osu is looking for at this point.

Lenix future Pro?

Hey Eddie!

Hey, Eddie: Looking into your crystal ball, which current local football players have the best chance of becoming stars in college or maybe even the NFL?

- Bob Cobb, Elyria

Two other kids that I could foresee being big time in college and taking their skills to the professional level are Glenville senior linebacker Freddie Lenix and Euclid junior outside linebacker/defensive end Thaddeus Gibson. Undersized at his position (6-0, 195), Lenix is tough, fast and strong. With his Ronnie Lottlike football instincts, Freddie could develop into an All-America-caliber safety at the next level. Gibson, who used to be the area's best-kept secret, can simply dominate with his rangy strength and uncanny quickness off the ball. Like Lenix, he is a bit undersized at 6-3, 207. But, like Boone, he will grow into his frame and possibly become a force as a rush end, outside linebacker or strong safety in college. LSU is enchanted with Thaddeus' skills and potential.

Kurelic Rivals Premium

He was at the game on Sat. and said he wasn't rooting for either team. Coach Fickell told Freddie that he wants him to be a Buckeye but no offer.

The only visits he is thinking about scheduling are Wisky and Iowa (both have offered) in Dec. He says he likes Iowa best.

Well it is obvious that he acting cool towards tOSU. He is paying attention to the teams that have offered him a schollie. I guess the question is how long he will wait on tOSU?

His actions make sense. I just have the feeling that JT will let Ginn Sr know where lenix stands and Ginn Sr will tell Lenix when to or not to commit. That is assuming that he doesn't get annoyed with the buckeyes. This could also be a Frost situation where he commits to one, then changes his mind later if tOSU comes through with an offer.

I don't think his actions make much sense if he wants to be a Buckeye.
How can you expect a kid to cheer against a team that has given him an offer which he very well could end up at and for a team that hasn't. It is not like he was using tOSU just to see a wisc game. Which tOSU and scUM recruits have been known to do.

Even if he badly wants a buckeye offer, I probably wouldn't openly state that Wisc and Iowa are my fall back schools if I don't get to go to the school that I really want.

Just my opinion, I would have loved to see every kid want tOSU first and others only as a fall back, but I can see where the kid is coming from.
