We may be looking at a strong safety at 240 lb a la Sean Taylor. This kid is a beast of an athlete - 175 lb skills in a 230 lb body.

"The committee thought long and hard and was very thorough about the best decision for our university," LB Joshua Perry said. "Coach Tressel is a standup guy that made a mistake and in the end, probably did the right thing. The Buckeye nation will be OK. He owned up to his mistake and he did what he needed to do. We are going to miss him. I am 100 percent committed to Ohio State."

Meanwhile, Joshua Perry, a receiver from Olentangy, said he spoke on Monday with two fellow central Ohioans who have committed for 2012 - running back Warren Ball of Eastmoor Academy and receiver Frank Epitropoulos of Upper Arlington.

"We all had the same sentiments - we're ready to play (for the Buckeyes)," Perry said. "When I first heard the news, I couldn't believe it. But as the day settled in, I thought to myself that I made the best decision I could make."

Tough foes await Olentangy's Perry in state meet

Two of Olentangy's track and field athletes make a return to the Division I state meet after qualifying at regionals Wednesday, May 25, and Friday, May 27, at Pickerington North.

The boys finished in 23rd place, scoring 13 points, and Josh Perry moved on to the next round in the long jump, placing third (21 feet, 8 1/2 inches).

"He has been very consistent this year," boys coach Brad Komenda said.

Perry was state runner-up last year and faces competition that includes Massillon Washington's Devin Smith, the 2010 state champ, and Springfield's Josh Bass, 2009's state winner.

Facing such a strong lineup, Perry will need to meet or better his best jump from this season.

"He has the capability to hit 23 (feet)," Komenda said. "He'll probably need that to win it this year."

Perry also came in sixth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.15).

"He ran a great time" Komenda said. "I can't be upset with how he did at all."

Bryce Cheek, Colin McShane and Anthony Outley joined Perry in the 400 relay and ran the fastest time by a Braves squad since 1982, coming in fifth (43.39).

"They did pretty well this year," Komenda said.

Speaking to BuckeyeSports.com?s Marcus Hartman at the Ohio high school track meet last week, Perry said he doesn?t see any reason to change his commitment.

?It?s hard to decommit,? the four-star prospect said. ?Ohio State is the best for me. I like the system that they have. They have a great staff. Coach Fickell did a great job with recruiting, and you always get good guys going to Ohio State so I knew I?d be playing with some good guys.?

Major props to Perry for continuing to be a leader for the 2012 class. He'll be a favorite of mine for this reason alone.

High-school football: Versatile Perry someone offenses want to avoid

LEWIS CENTER, Ohio ? Joshua Perry is big, strong, fast, versatile, intelligent and the ultimate team player. But the Olentangy outside linebacker/defensive end doesn?t put a great deal of stock in his statistics.

?All I?m focused on is doing my job and, hopefully, part of that is having a big impact on the game,? Perry said. ?The way our defense is designed, a big part of my job is to chase down ball carriers so the other guys can make the tackles. I take it as a real compliment when teams game plan around me.?

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Perry received that sort of praise from Westerville South coach Rocky Pentello after the Wildcats went scrambling back to the drawing board at halftime in a victory over Olentangy last season.

?We came out in the second half and wherever (Perry) lined up, we ran the other way,? Pentello told This WeekCommunity Newspapers.

Although Perry had only begun to reveal his potential, Ohio State coaches saw enough of him to extend a scholarship offer just two days into their camp in June 2010. He committed on the spot, becoming the first recruit of the Buckeyes? 2012 class.

There?s a lot to like about Perry. A three-sport athlete, he placed second and fifth in the state in the Division I long jump the past two seasons with a personal-best 23 feet. He also competes as a sprinter, hurdler and high jumper. A starter in basketball, Perry specializes in defense and rebounding.

During his seven years playing football, he was used on the offensive line, at safety, quarterback, receiver and running back before settling on the current hybrid role, which he is projected to play at Ohio State. He is rated as the No. 1 senior prospect in Ohio by JJHuddle.com and one of the top 25 linebackers in the country by Rivals.com.

Perry finished with 99 yards on 14 carries, also scoring on a 5-yard run, but was ejected after hitting Bull near the Orange sideline with 5:33 to play.

"I don't know what happened until I see the film," Olentangy coach Ed Terwilliger said. "Josh said he just pushed him, but the officials said he hit him. If that happened, he'll miss next week (against Delaware)."

Football Week 4 Recap: Olentangy 35, Dublin Scioto 25

Ohio State recruit Joshua Perry rushed for 199 yards and touchdowns of 61, 1 and 88 yards to lead the Olentangy High School football team to a 35-25 victory over host Dublin Scioto in the OCC-Cardinal Division opener for both teams on Friday, Sept. 16.

"We came out here with an intensity we haven't seen in a couple of weeks," said Perry, as the Braves improved to 2-2 overall while the Irish fell to 1-3. "The energy was there and the team morale was up tonight."

Perry rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns on his first five carries but had apparent touchdown runs of 36 and 25 yards wiped out by holding calls on the Braves' fourth drive of the first half.

After the drive fizzled at the Irish 19, Perry still found a way to get Olentangy into the end zone when he pressured Irish quarterback Evan DeMars into an errant pass. Olentangy defensive back Griffin Binkley picked it off and returned it 21 yards for a touchdown to give Olentangy a 21-0 lead with 6 minutes, 3 seconds left in the first half.

"It's something you have to deal with. It's football," Perry said. "You have to deal with adversity. When things don't go your way, you have to come out and readjust."

Ohio Capital Conference roundup: Marysville outlasts Olentangy

Olentangy (2-3, 1-1) opened the scoring with a 7-yard touchdown catch by Buchi Okafor in the first quarter, but fumbled away a chance to go up by two touchdowns after a nine-minute drive in the second quarter.

After Boyd's TD, the Braves answered with a 12-yard TD run by Joshua Perry, but his two-point run attempt was stuffed at the goal line. Perry finished with 145 yards rushing.
