LB Kyle Berger (Official Thread)

Ozone - Buckeyes in Early for Next St. Ignatius Star

12/5

The Buckeyes were late on a few of Ohio?s blue chip prospects in the class of 2013, but it looks like Urban Meyer is going to make sure that doesn?t happen again.

Trotwood-Madison linebacker Mike McCray II, whose father played at Ohio State, was offered months after he committed to Michigan. Current Massillon DB Gareon Conley also committed to Brady Hoke, but only recently has he been recruited heavily by the Buckeyes.

Conley may very well end up in Columbus, but this trend cannot continue and Meyer has clearly taken steps to rectify the situation. In a strong turn of events, the Buckeyes were the first school to offer LB Kyle Berger out of Cleveland?s famous St. Ignatius High School.

@MChungOZone

St. Ignatius 2014 LB Kyle Berger told me he arrived at 9am Sunday for his visit. Meet w/ Fickell and Meyer for an hour. Met acad. counselor

Kyle Berger also met with a Dr. in the Med School. Berger will be Pre-Med and is considering Biology as a major but has not decided.

Kyle Berger said Luke Fickell was with him much of the day and had a time to visit and talk about the future before he left.

Kyle Berger says OSU leads and will decide in April/May.

Seems like a great kid. I watched his film all the way through for the first time...really impressed with how he plays so downhill and takes great angles to wrap up the bal carrier. I think unionfutura legitimately expressed concern with taking too many athletes to play LB instead of purer LBs. Berger is the antithesis of that concern. You can tell he is really well coached and plays with fundamental. He is also a great athlete (outruns the St. Iggy secondary to make a tackle on a big run) and has an outstanding frame to bulk up with and I could easily see him growing into the LEO position, especially with how comfortable he is coming off the edge. Reminds me quite a bit of Bobby Carpenter, especially if he adds the good weight. Berger would be a great addition to this class...really brings a different skill set to the table than our other potential commits (Booker, McMillan, and Garrett). It will be really interesting to see how the staff sees all those players fitting together if they do indeed all end up at OSU.

Q&A with 2014 linebacker Kyle Berger
January, 16, 2013
By Josh Moyer | ESPN.com

2014 linebacker Kyle Berger (Cleveland, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) recently visited Ohio State and then had fellow Big Ten schools Michigan and Ohio State extend offers. BuckeyeNation recently caught up with Berger to ask him about his recruitment and what kind of player he is.

BN: You're from Ohio -- and you have an offer from Ohio State. So, everybody basically assumes you'll eventually commit to the Buckeyes. What would you say to that?

KB: Right now, it's kind of tough to say who's in the lead. Ohio State is my only visit I've taken so far. I want to get up and visit other places, possibly Penn State since I have an offer. Probably, right now, Ohio State is in the lead because I haven't seen other schools that I could compare it to. But that could change; I'm not too set on my schools right now.
