Awesome, Berger should be a really good college player. Needs to add a little size over the next year and if he does, could get playing time as a true freshman.

So many different types of guys athletically being brought in on D with Berger, Hubbard, Mitchell, Lee, Worley, Trey Johnson, etc. Should give the coaching staff a ton of flexibility and different options in matching up vs. various different offenses. Can't wait to see how all these guys develop.

Looks like we are on pace to mostly lock down Ohio early, which will let Urban and company focus more on the national guys down the stretch.

Wonder if he was rushed by the offer to Winovich?

Regardless, glad to keep Ohio's own at home.

I wondered the same thing and I think you may be on to something, but I also noticed in reading through this thread that he said back in January that OSU was his leader and he planned to commit in April or May. So doesn't look like he really moved his decision date up or anything.

St. Ignatius linebacker Kyle Berger commits to Ohio State
Tim Rogers, Plain Dealer reporter, April 08, 2013

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The cheers in the room convinced Kyle Berger he had made the right decision.

Berger, a Plain Dealer All-Star linebacker from St. Ignatius, made an oral commitment to Ohio State on Monday, running the number of OSU commitments from the class of 2014 to seven.

Berger, a third-team All-Ohioan last season after spearheading a defense that posted three shutouts and held opponents to under 10 points a game, said he had a good feeling after calling OSU assistant Luke Fickel with the news.

"Coach [Urban] Meyer was in a meeting and coach Fickel interrupted the meeting to tell him that I had decided to attend Ohio State," Berger said. "I could hear coach Meyer in the background. He shouted out, 'Berger has committed' and then I heard a big cheer."

Berger, a four-star prospect by Rivals.com, made 105 tackles and had 10.5 sacks in helping the Wildcats reach the Division I regional finals and finish with an 11-2 record. Their final loss was a 57-56 triple overtime thriller to Mentor.

Berger, 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, said his final four choices were OSU, Michigan, Tennessee and UCLA. He said he reached his decision after talking it over with his parents during spring break.

"It's definitely a load off my mind," said Berger, who lives in Medina. "A big load."

Berger said he was not one of those players who grew up dreaming of playing for OSU.

"My dream was to earn a scholarship," he said. "I didn't care where it was. I just wanted to play college football."

It wasn't until he made his official visit to OSU about three weeks ago that he started thinking seriously about OSU.

"I know a lot of guys at OSU and after I met the coaches and got to know some of the other players I knew that OSU was the place I wanted to be."

Huge get. Recruitment was similar to Ben Gedeon's except the SCumers had 8 months jump start on us for Gedeon. Welcome to the Buckeye Nation! :osu:

I like Berger much more then Gedeon. Gedeon may have already filled out. Berger has a long way to go before he reaches his ceiling.
