LB Mike Mitchell (transfer to Texas Tech, transfer to Southeastern FL)

I know this isn't the place for this, and it's all hearsay, but I immediately thought about an article about McCann Utu that I read after he passed. I have family that lives maybe 20-25 minutes from Plano East High School, so it was a story I had heard about because my younger cousins all play sports in that area.

The following snippet:

http://www.dallasnews.com/news/crim...-mom-brother-was-not-intoxicated-autopsy-says

"Relatives and friends said McCann hadn't been himself since two head injuries about three years ago. The first was sustained while he was playing basketball for Plano West Senior High School, and the second came during a fight with another student a few months later.

The teen's family has released his brain to UT Southwestern Medical Center for study.

McCann's brain had a slight depression in the right frontal portion, according to the autopsy report by the Collin County medical examiner's office. It also described his brain as having ridges that were slightly flattened."

I'm sure some folks here recall Mickey dealing with a legal situation involving an assault in 2014...

I'm glad he's getting to play football but it sure must be a disappointment to come onto the field at Ohio State, even as a bench warmer, and then come on to that high school field. I'm very sorry for him and hope he comes right.

...and then not even play every game.

I was curious about Mike, since I haven't heard anything about him for quite some time. I knew he transferred to TTech, but was surprised to learn of his transfer to Southeastern University in Florida. Wasn't his main reason for leaving OSU to be closer to his family in Texas? Perhaps the biggest surprise was learning he only played in 2 games last year and recorded 5 tackles.

I can't say I feel sorry for him, because we all have to make choices along our journey through life; however, Mike was definitely talented, which leads me to wonder what could have been had he followed a different path. But on the bright side, at least he's in school and getting an education.

Mike Mitchell Overcame Setbacks On Journey From Five-Star Ohio State Recruit To The NAIA

Mike Mitchell is a prime example of the unpredictability of how the career of a top recruit, or any recruit, will turn out.

Entire article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/tomlay...-ohio-state-recruit-to-the-naia/#5323bf7c2d55

Mitchell balled out in the NAIA last season and plans to attend pro days at Southeastern and possibly UCF to show NFL scouts what he can do.
