LB Palaie Gaoteote (Official Thread)

Any thoughts on what is holding him back.
I know the 4 LB's ahead of him are playing better.
But I expected a bigger contribution.
I know there is a learning curve but he was on the field for meaningful snaps v Oregon 24 hours after he was declared eligible.
He may have been injured the 2 weeks prior to IU.
I'm surprised he isn't at a minimum earning his stripes on special teams.
I watched his snaps v IU and the first play he flashed.
Other games (other then his 1 snap v Tulsa) he hasn't stood out.
Too Too is playing well at Bama.

I'm hoping PG can be another tool in the tool box down the stretch.

Maybe other guys are just playing better.
And TooToo didn't have to sit out, he had more practices than PG.

Yeah I made a post in the game thread that despite the score and time on the clock that he was still playing angry at the point he was in. That's a good sign he's hungry.

I think he'll play more against PSU, Sparty and ttun due to the styles of play and us having 3 LB on the field more instead of 2 and the bullet. It's a good sign really that the staff are paying attention to the right personnel in the games vs the other teams strengths.

Has one more year of eligibility. Does he break into the lineup next season? Thinking he battled through some injuries this year but was a bit of a head scratcher that he didn't get on the field much.

New Sheriff in town for next season. I’m betting he picks 2-3 linebackers for the regular rotation and that’s about it. Eichenberg and Chambers and ???

In addition to Gaoteote (if he returns for 2022), there's probably Simon, Chambers and Trayanum; and possibly Carrico, Powers, and Hicks.

Regardless competition for all the LB positions makes everybody better.

I really hope he returns and is 100%; if so, it will be interesting to finally see what he can do.

PALAIE GAOTEOTE IV FEELING AT HOME AS HE LOOKS TO EARN ROLE AT LINEBACKER IN SECOND SEASON AT OHIO STATE

“I've always been chasing,” Gaoteote said. “I've always been an underdog, I've always been the one down, I've always been working this hard for my whole life. So it's nothing new. I definitely think where my career started, it definitely hasn’t ended, and that same mentality that I had at the beginning is the same I have right now.”

Because of the personal issues – which he said he preferred not to discuss publicly – he was dealing with off the field, Gaoteote said he didn’t have the same passion for football he once did by the end of his time at USC. Since he arrived at Ohio State last summer, however, that passion has been restored.

“You lose that love for something, it's kind of hard on you,” Gaoteote said. “But when you find a second home like Ohio State and you're able to do the thing that you love most, it's kind of fun again.
