LB Raekwon McMillan (New England Patriots)

11W - Catching Up with Raekwon McMillan: The Game Visit

11/27

How did you like the visit and game?

It was a great visit. I got to go to one of the best rivalries of all time. The atmosphere for the game was awesome.

Which coaches did you talk to on the visit?

Coach Meyer, Coach Fickell, and Coach Withers. They all gave me great attention even though it wasn't my official visit. Coach Meyer pulled me aside and talked to me three or four times over the visit.

What did they tell you?

They tell me Ohio State is a prestigious university and say they are thin at linebacker and really need to add more linebackers.

How often do you talk to OSU?

I talk to Ohio State every two or three days. I usually talk to Coach Pantoni and Coach Withers.

What kind of relationship do you have with Coach Withers?

I call him all the time. We're building a really strong relationship.

Which schools are standing out?

Ohio State is still in the lead, then Clemson and Georgia. Those two schools are fighting for the number two spot. After that, it's Notre Dame and Alabama.

When would you like to make a decision?

I'll be announcing my college decision at the 2014 Army All-American Bowl.

What will be the biggest factors in your decision?

The university as a whole and the future of the football program.

What's your relationship like with fellow 2014 prospects?

I talk to a lot of the 2014 guys on Twitter all the time. I got to talk to Drew Barker, Thaddeus Snodgrass, Clifton Garrett, Da'Shawn Hand, and others this weekend.

Is there a chance some of you go to the same school?

We all talk about it happening, but it's definitely not a sure thing.

This would work for me. Kind of like the $500 million Powerball jackpot.

FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: RAEKWON MCMILLAN
December 25, 2012
By DENNIS KNIGHT BY DENNIS KNIGHT

FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

RAEKWON MCMILLAN

SCHOOL: Liberty County

POSITION: Linebacker/Running back

AGE/GRADE: 17/junior

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-foot-3, 235 pounds

ACHIEVEMENTS: McMillan was named the defensive player of the year in Region 3-AAAA. Ranked as a 5-star prospect by Rivals.com, McMillan has offers from all of the top Division I schools, including Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State and South Carolina. This season he recorded 151 tackles with seven sacks, one interception, five forced fumbles and a fumble returned for a touchdown. He also ran for 316 yards (6.45 yards per carry) and scored nine rushing touchdowns. He is playing in the third annual AT&T Georgia Junior Bowl in Atlanta on Dec. 31 and was named by USA Today as a second-team All-USA selection.

INTERESTS: McMillan maintains a 3.4 GPA and also was a basketball player for the Panthers until this season, when he decided to focus solely on football.

WHAT?S NEXT: McMillan thinks the Panthers will be strong next year and hopes to end his high school career on an extended playoff run. He says Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson, Alabama and South Carolina are his top five schools. He plans to visit campuses and make his decision public at the Under Armour All-America game in 2014.

What they are saying ...

MCMILLAN ON MCMILLAN: ?I think I improved this year by dedicating myself to the weight room. I also really learned the playbook ? so I know where I?m supposed to be to make plays. My most memorable game this year was against South Effingham. I had 16 tackles, four tackles for a loss and rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns. It was unfortunate we lost, but I played my heart out in that game.?

LIBERTY COUNTY COACH KIRK WARNER ON MCMILLAN: ?Raekwon keeps improving physically and he is getting better in the mental game by leaps and bounds. He became the quarterback of our defense this year ? he knows where everyone should be. He works hard in the weight room, you just can?t keep him out of there. We were blessed to have Shadrach (Thornton, now at N.C. State) the last few years, and Raekwon has taken the torch from him. He?s become our leader.?

LB McMillan shines at Junior Bowl practice
December, 28, 2012
By Kipp Adams | ESPN.com

ATLANTA -- The first day of practice was underway Friday for the Rising Seniors Junior Bowl, and the East Team took some time to install the playbook and get warmed up to contact after being out of pads for a few weeks following the end of their junior seasons.

The most-heralded prospect in the event made his presence known early on, while Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is doing his best to dip into the talent-rich Peach State for the 2014 recruiting cycle.

247Sports 2014 All-American Team

LB- Raekwon McMillan, Hinesville (Ga.) Liberty County

Simply put, McMillan is a playmaking machine. In 2012, he recorded 155 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, seven sacks and five forced fumbles. A year earlier, he had 16 tackles for loss. The 6-foot-3, 236-pound McMillan is one of the biggest and most physical linebackers in the country. He's currently the No. 1 inside linebacker and No. 22 overall prospect in the 247Composite rankings. McMillan not only was named first-team All-State in Georgia, but was the Class AAAA Defensive Player of the Year. McMillan, who currently has Ohio State in front with Clemson next, has excellent speed and quickness for his size. He's a true sideline-to-sideline player. Additionally, he possesses a stout power base, which gives him great strength to apply massive and forceful hits.
