Locking up the top recruits in Ohio.......:oh:....:io:

The nation's No. 3 interior linebacker in the 2021 class and No. 126 player overall, Carrico becomes Ohio State's fifth commitment in the class and is the latest mark of the Buckeyes' early in-state dominance on the recruiting trail in the cycle.

With Carrico in the fold, Ohio State now holds commitments from four of the top five prospects in the state of Ohio with over 15 months to go before signing day.

Five-star defensive end Jack Sawyer (PIckerington North), four-star offensive tackle Ben Christman (Richfield) and four-star wide receiver Jayden Ballard (Massilon Washington) were already committed. Four-star wide receiver Lorenzo Styles Jr. is the only top-five Ohioan not committed to Ohio State, and he's a target of the Buckeyes.

I will take this opportunity to tell one of my favorite stories.

In the 1990s after I got out of the Navy I was living in Maryland. A friend of mine was a graduate of Archbishop Carroll High school there, the top ranked school in Maryland's largest division. He still followed them. He told me they were playing Ironton at home that week and what I knew about them. I shrugged and said that I didn't know any details but that Ironton is tough. He said "But they're small". I gave him a "okkkkaaaaay, you just think that" look. The next week he tells me Ironton won 28-21. He said "Ohio plays some good football". and I said "duh". Then he says they are playing *another* Ohio High School but in Ohio. He couldn't remember the name, but told me it was in Cincinnati and was like "Miller something". I said "Archbishop Moeller?" "Yeah that's it" he says. I told him if Ironton beat them, Moeller was going to destroy them. And they did 56-0.

To add insult to injury, his *other* alma mater, Maryland, was playing the Ohio Bobcats. OU won 21-10. Not his best month, I imagine.

I feel the same about Carrico. Like, Luke Kuechly type of feel. I think he’ll be a similar type of player to Kuechly.
