Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

The Jason Kidd hire is strictly to deal with/appease LeBron... LeBron respects Kidd

That’s the common thought although I don’t think he really respects anyone. If/when they suck next year, I doubt he’ll have any problem putting the blame on Vogel, Kidd, Jack Nicholson, Ice Cube or whoever else.

I mowed the grass today, just like my dad.

Actually, I saw Dwight Howard with a sweet chase down block once. Is he Bron Jr.’s dad? We need to get people on that. I also saw lil’ Bron make a layup just like Mark Price did. Maybe he’s Bron Jr.’s dad?

Can people stop with the “like his dad” bullshit?

He did a chase down block, like a gazillion other basketball players have done. So it’s like a basketball player, not some special James gene.

I bet BronBron was laughing his ass off at the media experts predicting the demise of the Lakers when he had the AD deal locked up 6 months ago.

I think it's the Pelicans who were laughing and still are... reports are LA botched the salary cap issues in deal and left themselves well short of filling roster out with journeymen let alone a 3rd max FA.

They got Davis, Lebron, Kuzma, and whoever they can find in the discount aisle.

The AD trade is gonna ruin the Lakers for years in the future. LeBron is the worst GM influencer in the NBA, he has been at it ever since he went to Miami and, after his success with the Heat, it has become repeatedly disastrous. He pressures his teams to make terrible decisions to sacrifice almost all future assets they can in order to boost chances of winning now, pushes them into making moves that put them in the luxury tax/salary cap purgatory, and when his contract is up he bails to find a new team with future assets that they can get rid of to maximize the current version of the team he joins.

The long-term ramifications of selling your future are irrelevant to LBJ, and it became irrelevant to the Lakers as a result. The Lakers leadership is incompetent and the AD trade is already regrettable for them as they didnt understand their salary cap limits and can't even fill out their roster with enough quality players on competitive contracts to really be a contender unless LeBron gets multiple quality vets to do what he won't - take less money to be part of a winner.

Do you think the Cavs win a title without those moves? I wouldn’t undo it as a Cavs fan.

Similarly, Lakers have an actual title shot now. Lot of dumb money in Vegas betting, but the fact that Lakers are current favorites tells me they’re at least contenders in what is all of a sudden a wide open NBA. If I were a Lakers fan I’d personally take that over rolling the rebuild dice.

So they would have been worse off with Wiggins + a less expensive but still quality vet forward than having Kevin Love? It is all speculation, but I'm not sure that trade really made a difference in helping win the title in 2016 considering they could have had other, cheaper but talented players to help their team similarly that would put them in a better position financially long-term. When they played GS in 2016, they had a Big 2 and not really a Big 3 as clearly Love was much less effective than LBJ and Kyrie.

I wouldn't bet a dollar on the Lakers winning the title. The odds had Duke as by far the best team to win the NCAA title all year, but they weren't up to the challenge ultimately and similar to the Lakers their odds were skewed because of elite talent without a true appreciation for the lack of talent amongst the supporting cast.
