It’s a good day when you’re expected to officially sign the top class in the country.

It has to be refreshing to this coaching staff to know that the hard work of recruiting the best skill players in the country has paid off at nearly every position.

One of those studs is 6’6″ stud tight end Luke Farrell out of Perry, Ohio — who faxed in his letter of intent today to seal his commitment to Ohio State football.

Farrell is a four-star recruit and the 7th best tighte end prospect in the country and the 8th best overall recruit from the state of Ohio, according to 24/7 sports.

He committed in late July at Ohio State’s Friday Night Lights camp at Ohio Stadium.

Now, he’ll be thrown right into the mix as one of the few freshman that could see a ton of playing time.

Behind Marcus Baugh, there will be four players competing for the second tight end spot. Of those guys, Farrell provides the best game ready size as a true freshman.

As you can see in this highlight video from last season, Farrell has great hands to build upon. The question will be if he can become the blocker Ohio State needs through just one fall camp.

What he has going for him is the blocking schemes that he was a part of the run-first offense at Perry High school.

Farrell told Cleveland.com in late July that he’s willing to do whatever the coaching staff needs him to do.

“I’m going to adapt to whatever they want me to do,” Farrell said. “I can be more of a traditional tight end, put my hand on the ground and I can also run routes and catch passes. I can come down the line on a linebacker or run a vertical route, and I’m easy to coach.”

Farrell had over 700 yards receiving as a junior.

Welcome to Ohio State Luke! We can’t wait to see you battle it out on the gridiron.
