I could've sworn coaches weren't allowed to make direct contact with underclassmen. Could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time.

I got it really indirectly, just simply he was there, and that those were the two names given to me as people of interest. I have no idea how much contact was made between them, if any. I don't live there anymore, just got this from somebody who still does and goes to Southview.

Coaches visit the school and generally talk to the HS coach to guage interest and get to know the recruit better. They can also talk to guidance cousellors etc. to get a feell for academic progress. They are not permitted to directly contact these kids. Camps and Junior day visits are the best way to build relationships with direct contact.

Last year Gant played at the Middle School where I coached football this year. I never met him but the guy I coached with (teacher at Southview) said he was just as good at basketball if not better.

Nope, but he is related to Charles Woodson and his father played for Michigan.

Impressive.

Not only did Dad play for Michigan, but he's related to one of the Top 5 players in the schools entire history and their best player in the last 20 years.

If this kid ends up at Ohio State it would be a crying shame.

Allen Gant, DB, Southview (Sylvania, Ohio)

Southview head coach Jim Mayzes had no problem putting Allen Gant?s talents into perspective.

?I?ve never had a freshman play for me before, and he started both says,? Mayzes said of Gant.

Even before he was scoring touchdowns in the Division III state title game, Gant was well known around Sylvania.

?I?ve been hearing about him since he was five years old,? Mayzes said. ?He?s had a lot of attention and he?s had a good attitude all throughout.?

Gant is good enough to play wide receiver in college, but will likely be recruited a defensive back, where he could be one of the nation?s best.

Scout$--2012 Ohio DB has UM Ties (GBW)

Allen says tOSU is showing the most attention. He talks about his dad's days at Michigan, having an Uncle who coached at tOSU, and growing up as a Buckeye fan. Dad would like him to go to Michigan but will not force him.

Sam Webb did his to get some pro-Michigan comments from Allen but the Buckeye kept shining through.
