Impressive young guns

Kaleb Ringer, LB/RB, freshman, Clayton, Ohio/Northmont

The nephew of Michigan State running back Javon Ringer is already well on his way to making his own mark as a freshman. This 5-11, 208-pound linebacker and running back put up striking numbers in the shuttle and 40 for a ninth grader. Ringer ran a 4.13 and a 4.85, respectively, in the two events. Kaleb looks upon his uncle as a real role model because of his humility and determination in fighting through injuries to excel. It will be exciting to follow this other Ringer in the coming years.

It is a big name in football circles around Dayton: Ringer. Tennessee Titan and former Michigan State star Javon Ringer starred at Chaminade--ulienne High School, averaging 187 yards a game on the ground during his prep career. Now, one of his nephews may be the next big star at Clayton (Ohio) Northmont.

Kaleb Ringer starts at middle linebacker for the Bolts, as a sophomore. He led the way in Northmont's 13-6 win over Lakota West Friday night.

"I really, really like Ohio State. Being a Buckeye and living in the Buckeye state. UCLA is another team I like. The first letter I ever got was from UCLA."

Northmont capitalizes on Wayne's turnovers

With two interceptions from sophomore Kaleb and 128 rushing yards and two touchdowns by senior Korey, Northmont survived a second-half Wayne rally and won 27-14 on Friday, Oct. 2.

Wayne (3-3) faced a series of misfortunes in the first half, and Northmont (4-2) capitalized. On the opening drive, Kaleb Ringer intercepted and returned 52 yards for a touchdown.

Brothers Kaleb (left) and Korey Ringer helped their Northmont football team bring down Wayne High School last Friday, Oct. 2. Linebacker Kaleb, a sophomore, won the Hammer Award for the hardest hits. Running back Korey is a senior.

CLAYTON ? When Kaleb Ringer was in the fourth grade, his family moved from Huber Heights to the school district that included Northmont High School.

Kaleb, the third of four Ringer brothers, didn?t have the same knowledge of the coming high school that he did about his family?s athletic legacy.

?I had never heard of Northmont,? Kaleb said.

Many people, though, had already heard of the Ringers.

Continuing a new family tradition at Northmont, Korey (a senior running back) and Kaleb (a sophomore linebacker) have helped the Thunderbolts to a 4-2 record, including impressive performances in their previous two games, wins against Fairborn and Wayne.

With a father, Kevin, who starred at Belmont High School before playing at Iowa and an uncle, Javon, who excelled as a running back at Chaminade Julienne and Michigan State and now plays for the NFL?s Tennessee Titans, the Ringers have faced steep expectations.

In many ways, they have delivered.

Their talents were on display on Friday, Oct. 2, in Northmont?s key Greater Western Ohio Conference game against Wayne. Kaleb, 6 feet and 219 pounds, grabbed two interceptions in the first half, including one he returned 52 yards for a touchdown and another he tipped to himself in the open field.

Ringer is the real deal...could be that Ohio has the top LB in the country 3 years in a row (assuming DePriest keeps that title on Scout). Yes, he could be that good if he keeps progressing.
