m*ch*gan LB Kaleb Ringer

We need a Ringer in the next class? One of the top juniors in Ohio next year is up-and-coming linebacker, Kaleb Ringer. And Kaleb wants to come to Ohio State. Really. When we asked about his overall recruiting last week, the Clayton Northmont junior?s first words were: ?I like Ohio State.? The Buckeyes haven?t offered Ringer yet, but they likely will. Ringer is a Top 5 prospect in the Class of 2012 and could be the next Buckeye from Northmont, which has churned out recent studs Kurt Coleman and C.J. Barnett.

Ringer has offers already from Iowa (and will visit this summer) and UC. He said he probably wouldn?t commit to Ohio State on the spot, but his smile said otherwise.

Ringer: ?It?s kind of like that but I don?t want anyone to seem like they?re out in front.? According to Northmont head coach, Lance Schneider, Ringer - who is the nephew of former Michigan State star and current Tennessee Titan Javon Ringer - has the potential to be the program?s biggest recruit ever nationally. ?We?ve had a lot of good linebackers and he?s potentially going to be the best one,? Schneider said. ?(OL) Zebrie (Sanders) was a big recruit and went to Florida State, and nationally he?s the biggest guy I?ve had here. Kaleb I?m sure will be the same way. People are talking about him and he?s got a couple offers so far. When September 1 hits, I expect a lot more to pop up.?

Scout $ - Ringer 'Focused' On Game-One

7/22

By The Bank...missed OSU's camp due to illness...enjoyed his visit to MSU for their camp...talks about how important academics will be in his decision...has been named a junior captain.

I know there are those that will knock Ringer because of his height (I've heard he is not 6-foot-1 as listed) but I would take his kid tomorrow...and there are tons of LB, past and present, who are 6-foot-0 and smaller and are still terrors...guys like Brian Rolle, H.B. Blades (who Ringer reminds me of), Buster Davis, Al Wilson, Derrick Brooks, Zach Thomas, Vince Hall, Curtis Lofton, Sam Mills, Rennie Curran, Darryl Sharpton, etc.

I hope this is one of the kids that gets an early offer in the '12 class. Seems like a stud. Does anyone know if he plays in the division with Centreville? I'm gonna catch a bunch of their games because I have a buddy that coaches there.

Yes Northmont is in the GWOC along with Centerville, Springfield, Wayne, etc.

Greater Western Ohio Conference

It appears that the GWOC is back producing some high end talent...

Sam Mills was a monster. 5'9" tall and he used to blow plays up. I know that was a different era, but 5'9" and 232 lbs. and to wreak havoc like he did is impressive.

Isn't London Fletcher under 6'? I do think he's had a long and productive NFL career

BN $ - Ringer Reflects On Day At 'Shoe

9/14

By Helwagen...talks about what stood out during his visit last weekend...OSU has not discussed an offer but has verbals from Cincinnati and Iowa and says Duke and UVA appear to be close...favors Alabama, UCLA, Virginia, North Carolina, Michigan State, Iowa, Ohio State and Cincinnati.

The staff seems to be taking things very slow for 2012...

this is seemingly due to the limited number of scholarships for the class combined with the ridiculous amount of in-state talent... correct?

Also focusing on the NC run IMO. Recruiting might take more of a back seat until the season is over.

Northmont?s Ringer breaks family tradition
Junior thrives at linebacker; older relatives were star running backs.

CLAYTON ? Kaleb Ringer fancied himself running for touchdowns. That?s what his older nephew Javon Ringer and older brothers Kevin and Korey did.

No chance.

?I always grew up big and I never got the chance in peewee to run the ball,? reflected Kaleb Ringer, Northmont High School?s menacing presence at middle linebacker.

?At first I was center and Korey was the quarterback. It was 1-2 Ringer. ... When they switched me over, I got that linebacker mentality to go head-first and hit. I?ve always liked hitting.?

Good thing, because Kaleb has broken the Ringer running back mold that has flourished at Chaminade Julienne with Javon and Northmont with since-graduated Kevin and Korey.

At 6 feet and 223 pounds, the junior has followed a breakout sophomore season with another mostly outstanding effort. He?s helped light up opposing offenses of late and is a big reason why the Thunderbolts (6-2) take a five-game winning streak into tonight?s 7:30 contest against visiting rival Wayne (5-3) at Good Samaritan Stadium in the DDN Game of the Week.

The Northmont/OSU connection is strong. Safety Kurt Coleman captained the Buckeyes last season and now is with the Philadelphia Eagles. C.J. Barnett was a starting OSU defensive back this season until suffering a season-ending knee injury.

?It?s kind of like a bug flying around my head,? said Ringer, circling a finger, then cupping his hands around his mouth.

?You know, OSU, OSU, OSU.?

Wayne coach Jay Minton is sold on Ringer. Minton helped groom former Wayne and OSU standout linebacker Marcus Freeman and sees Ringer as having a similar impact.

?If there?s a better (linebacker) in the state, I want to see him,? Minton said.

?Whenever they can run out of Ringers is fine by me. There?s a lot of them. It?s got to be really neat for that family to see the success that they?re all having. Kaleb could be one of the best of the bunch.?
