Philadelphia Union Announce Bimbo As Shirt Sponsors

Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union announced Tuesday a partnership with Bimbo, one of the world's largest producers of baked goods. The four-year deal will see the Union sport Bimbo's logo on the front of their jerseys in exchange for $12 million, the most lucrative shirt sponsorship deal for an MLS team, with the exception of the Los Angeles Galaxy.

While the company's name is less well-known in the United States and for Americans likely invokes thoughts of the derisive term popular in the 1980s, its products can be found throughout shelves in Latin America and China, where it has grown into one of the biggest baked goods conglomerates in the world.

Wow. Completely forgot this thread existed. Big bump for this thread :). Some quick hitters:

David Beckham made a surprise move and re-signed for 2 more years in LA, spurning a $17.6 mil, 18 month stint at PSG. At that link, based on average attendence per game, MLS is the 10th best attended league in the world. Thought that was a pretty darn awesome stat.

Hot rumor is that Montreal has a "90% chance" to land German ace Michael Ballack as their DP. Tons of rumors about players looking at coming to MLS, but this one apparently has some real legs. Then again, Montreal has been rumored to be looking at damn near every big name free agent in the soccer world (including Didier Drogba).

And unless you've been living under a rock, Thierry Henry is on loan to Arsenal for the off-season. He also scored the winning goal in his first game back in Arsenal colors.

MLS

2012 All-Star Game will be in Philadelphia... the first all-star game for any sport in the city in a decade. No word yet on who would be the team the MLS All-Stars will face, but they've played some fantastic teams in this game in the past... Chivas Guadalajara, Fulham, Celtic, Chelsea, and Manchester United (the last 2 years running). Will Man U make it 3? Might we see Barca or Real?

Time for a REVIVE!

LA ties against Toronto in the CONCACAF CL, 2-2.

Seattle hosting Santos on now.
The LA-Toronto game was very entertaining. If that game is played on grass, LA wins by a hundred. :tongue2:

I only saw the first half of Seattle v. Santos Laguna. It looked like Seattle was barely holding onto the 1-0 lead at the end of the half. Great to see that they pulled off the 2-1 win heading into the 2nd leg. I don't think there was a chance in hell that any tie or loss could have given them a shot at advancing.

That Hercules Gomez goal was class! That away goal could be the nail in the coffin for Seattle. I don't think they'll play very well AT Santos.

The MLS app for iOS has been updated and it is SLICK. They've added quick access to roster rules, national TV schedules and pub listings. It's probably the second best pro sports league app going, after MLB At Bat.

Minute 18, and Santos is already up 2-0 (3-2 aggregate) over Seattle. I guess they decided to stop fucking around and move on to the next round.

Knew this would happen. MLS teams may as well forget about trying to win in Mexico. They need to focus on surviving. As soon as Santos scored the away goal against Seattle last week, I knew that would be all they needed to advance. (knowing they'd put up goals in front of their home crowd)
