Malik Barrow, 6’3”, 270 lbs. Four-star strong-side DE, had received 23 Division I-A scholarship offers which has included schools such as, FL ST, FL, Miami (FL), Duke, Auburn, UCF, UCLA, GA Tech, Penn State, *ichigan ST, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, OK, and LSU. But he chose The Ohio State University, and had done so way back in April of 2015 with a verbal commitment. Luke Fickell would visit Malik in May of 2015 and again in December of 2015. Malik officially enrolled at The Ohio State University on January 11, 2016.

Out of Tampa, FL he had been a standout for three years with Tampa Catholic before transferring to IMG in Bradenton, FL for his senior year. There, he was a complete standout in what has been labeled as a football factory. Barrow would finish his senior year with 64 tackles, 19 for a loss, and three forced fumbles.

On the recruitment rankings ESPN has him listed #182 overall, #62 in FL, and #34 in the DE position. 247Spots lists him at 294 overall, 30 in the DE position, and 41 in FL. Rivals put him at 27 in position and 33 in state. Scout lists at 62 in position, of all FL DE’s they have him listed at 7, and regionally (South) he is 19.

Malik is a committed Defensive End. He is strong, fast and has the ability to roll off blocks, keeping his feet as he pursues the ball handler.

“I decided that I’d be a Buckeye because Coach Fickell and Coach Meyer generate a landscape in College Football that is unlike anywhere. The positive approach allows one to learn and excel simultaneously. The trust in one’s talent is not taken for granted. I was told upfront I will have to earn my spot.”

The Buckeyes are traditionally above average on the Defensive line. Malik Barrow who has been clocked in the 40 yard dash at 4.80 will undoubtedly fit into the tradition. Some Buckeye insiders have quietly compared him to Michael Bennett. After notable tackles too it has been observed that he has a similar Joey Bosa shrug.

It isn’t a far reach to understand that Malik Barrow will be a regular mention in Buckeye Nation just as the two greats I have already mentioned. I have no intent to jump the gun and put in their category just yet. Malik put it best in his statement listed above – “…I was told upfront I will have to earn my spot!”

He understands. This is Buckeyes Football. He will fit in very well.
