Manny Ramirez (manny being manny)

If anyone has cause to cry unfair, it'd be the Arizona Diamondbacks, since they were leading the division at the time of the trade. Although, I don't feel sorry for them since about 3/4ths of their 01 series winning team was probably on the juice.

'Phenomenon' Ramirez eyes return to MLB

Manny Ramirez wants back in. [Ramirez] batted .352 this season with eight home runs and 43 RBI for the EDA Rhinos of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. The Rhinos -- based in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan -- released Ramirez after he fulfilled a contractual commitment to play for them through June 15, when the first half of their season ended. "The reason he decided not to return for the second half was to free himself to be available to play in the United States," Barry Praver, Ramirez's agent, told FOXSports.com Wednesday. "This whole thing with Manny in Taiwan was a phenomenon. He invigorated the league. Attendance went through the roof. It was a very positive experience for both sides. Manny was so invigorated by his play there that he wants to return to the majors."

Papi's take: Manny's a new Manny

On Monday, David Ortiz found out that former teammate Manny Ramirez landed a job as a Class AAA player/coach in the Cubs organization. He believes it's a good idea. Ramirez, who turns 42 Friday, once starred in the middle of the Red Sox lineup with Ortiz. But he forced a trade from team in 2008 by essentially quitting on his teammates, an act that enraged team executives. Ramirez later was suspended twice for using performance-enhancing drugs. But Ortiz believes Ramirez has changed and will make a good mentor. "It's a different guy. He's been doing different things for the past couple of years," Ortiz said after an 8-6 victory against the Braves. "I've been talking to him a lot on the phone and sometimes I get confused because I don't know if I'm talking to him or not. This is legit."

one of the purest hitters i will ever get to see play ball. might be nice to see him play in AAA even. can see him becoming a modern day julio franco and playing till 45 - 48. dude will always be able to put bat on ball.

not sure how that translates to coaching ability.

Sometimes the greatest players just can't teach it properly. George Brett being an example of a great hitter could can teach it to anyone - Tony Gwynn as well.

Pedro Martinez: Manny Ramirez spiked alcohol 2004 Red Sox drank with Viagra

There may be a little blue reason the Yankees faced stiff competition from The Red Sox during the 2004 American League Championship Series.

While recounting his favorite Manny Ramirez memories, former pitcher Pedro Martinez said the slugger once spiked alcohol Boston players drank before postseason games with Viagra.

Ramirez had a bottle of Mama Juana sitting in his locker, according to the Hall of Famer, and told the Red Sox they were welcome to have some. But then, as Martinez said, Ramirez "went and doctored it."

"He put three 100 milligrams of Viagra in," a laughing Martinez told Seth Meyers while promoting his new book "Pedro."

Ramirez and a few players wanted someone to taste the concoction to see if it worked.

"We decided to let Ellis Burks try to taste it and I say, ‘You know, this Mama Juana, if you drink it, you might get turned on,' " Martinez recalled. "He said, ‘Oh, I’ll try it. I’ll try it. I’m not playing anyway.’ So he took it, it seemed like it worked. So everybody was coming up to him for a little shot.”
