Mark Snyder (Texas A&M Defensive Coordinator)

good question craigblitz......i guess the answer depends on what you consider "the internal ring of coaches" to be.....it's going to be a very interesting (maybe surprising) couple of days at the WHAC now that Marshall has set this in motion....

HH sure doesn't think that Tucker will be in the mix from what he posted on BNP.

I'm not saying he will be... by any means... I'm just saying there is a certain amount of logic behind it.

If Alan says we'll be surprised... then... we'll probably be surprised... And I wouldn't be shocked if its a totally off the radar guy... Tress has his little "Lists" and I doubt if the people on the lists even know they are on them.. though in this case I'm sure feelers have already been put out.

If we're gonna go with a surprise name, we might as well just take Chizik :)

Very anxious to see who is chosen in this situation. Glad we have a coach that prepares so well for situations like these. Otherwise a team could be in a real bind losing a DC right now.

The list of possible suspects that I've heard are (in no particular order):

Heacock (current OSU ass't)
Tucker (former OSU ass't)
Gary Blackney (former OSU DC)
Bob Davie (former DC)
Pepper Johnson (NFL ass't, Buckeye legend)
Chris Spielman (Arena coach, Buckeye legend)

Anyone have any names to add to the list?

Unless I am missunderstanding, I am hearing the Heacock from YSU is more likely than Jim Heacock (current tOSU) assisstant. We will only have 3 defensive coaches if/when Snyder leaves.

i've sent out some emails to folks back home (Y-Town) that are very involved with ysu football. about 2 weeks ago, these folks told me that jon heacock wasnt going anywhere. we'll see how quickly that tune changes.

the impression i got was that heacock v.2 was a fallback plan for osu, but JT really does think highly of him and he was JT's hand picked successor at YSU.
He did some good things at IU given what he had to work with, but I dont know how good he is on the recruiting front.

Ok, now that we have concluded that the insiders either arent 100% sure who it will be or they know and can't say. Can you at least throw us a bone and tell us when the announcement will be made?

Unfortunately- We're in a Teaser free Zone....

But here:

We had to jump on Snyder. Some at Marshall were saying let Kueck (Larry Kueck), who was up for the job and Pruett endorsed only because he was on his staff I think, coach this season and then if it doesn't work out we will go get Snyder in December. I looked at them like "HuH" NO PROGRAM has a try-out job and if you fail you go get another coach. I also said I don't think if we jump on Snyder now, I don't think he will be at Ohio State to take in December. Someone somewhere would have jumped all over him.

According to all media outlets Snyder will/should be named coach tomorrow at 11:30 AM at a Press Conf. in Huntington.
