Maryland at tOSU, Oct 9th, Noon ET on FOX

Yep. Whatever they did has helped. It’s still clearly a work in progress, but I saw guys in position and working together as opposed to the cluster from the first few games. Again, it’s Maryland, so I’m not getting too excited. But in general, I like what I saw today on that side of the ball.
Again not sure where the “It’s just Maryland” downplaying is coming from. Three weeks ago this team could barely stop a high school offense. Maryland came into the Shoe with a Top 25 offense. This Buckeye defense made them look nearly as bad as Iowa’s Top 10 D defense did. No one is saying this defense is the Legion of Boom but they’re light years ahead of what they were weeks 1-3. Right now they’re playing like a Top 25 defense.

As soon as the Bucks shut down Alabama people will reluctantly see progress

They'll say the same thing again when we beat PEDO 49-21 in 3 weeks.

They will constantly wonder how good this team is until we plant UGA in the first round in January.

Good point

Pearls before swine though

That’s the same guy that declared Stroud a failure in the first quarter of the Minnesota game

I think some of the argument, is that some people just don't want to get too high on the team and want to be right if the defense regresses. And also, some people think that our offense should be doing what UGA has been doing all season. They expect us to win 66-0, or 59-9, and for the opposing offense to have less than 100yds and rushing to have less than 100yds. That's just not feasbile weekly in football now with rules favoring the offense so much. As good as 2020 Bama was, they still had teams average 350+yds/gm against them, and had only 2 teams under 200 total yards. That's the current landscape in football.
I think this defense definitely looks worlds better than the 1st 3 games.

not saying it shouldn’t happen from time to time… but this ain’t ‘05 anymore… holding them below 30 might need to be the better expectation

I would go even farther and say if you're talking about a playoff-level game, if you hold the opponent to 35 or less you can win. If you've held the opponent under 35 and lose, that loss is on your offense. In the CFP era, the title game is always either a shootout or a blowout.
