Maryland Terrapins (turtle)

So look for us to win between 8 and 10 games and finish any were between 5th and 2nd in the ACC.
And there is the difference between tOSU and the T(w)erps (sorry, gotta do it)... you are expecting 2nd to 5th... and fine with it...

For Ohio State there isn't anything but #1, every year. Even off years it is still an expectation of most of us...

I see losses for the Terps against Clemson, UVA (always tough early), VT, FSU, BC, and possibly NCSU...WVU is a toss up but I'll give it to the Terps since it is a home game. 5-6...no bowl.

Top to bottom IMO the ACC is better than the big ten have a looksee.

Michigan Miami (even)
Ohio State Florida State(even)
Wisconsin Virginia Tech(edge vtech)
Iowa Virginia (edge iowa)
Minnisota Maryland (even)
Northwestern NC state (nc state)
Illinois Georgia Tech ( GT tech in a landslide)
Indiana Clemson (clemson in a landslide)
Purdue Boston College (even)

Put ohio state in the ACC and I guarentee you that they will not see as much success as they are seeing in the big ten.

Debatable...as are your fantasy matchups.

Why choose Indiana and Illinois over PSU and Michigan State?

Michigan Miami (even)
Ohio State Florida State(even)
Wisconsin Virginia Tech(even)
Iowa Virginia (edge iowa)
Minnesota Maryland (even)
Northwestern NC state (nc state)
Michigan State Georgia Tech (Even)
PSU Clemson (Even)
Purdue Boston College (even)

I'd say that looks pretty damn close...and I would argue the MSU/GT, Wisky/VT, Purdue/BC, and PSU/Clemson matchups.

Even if you are correct (a point which I most certainly do not concede, except for the limited purposes of this discussion), it says nothing about how Maryland would fare against Ohio State (which was your initial premise). Over the entire history of college football, OSU has the 4th best program of all time, Maryland the 55th; from 1986-2004, OSU is 7th, while Maryland again ranks 55th. Although Maryland might win the occasional contest, Ohio State, over the course of time, would certainly "own" Maryland, just like we "own" the middle-of-the-road Big Ten schools.

If you want to limit the discussion to 2005, then good luck - we're up (way up), and you're down. I highly doubt that a hypothetical match-up this fall would go Maryland's way.

All time OSU is 37-7 against Minnesota with an average margin of victory of 17 points. Minnesota has beaten OSU once in the last 19 meetings.

In your list you equate Minnesota to Maryland. I would say that is about right.

Now, what was your original premise?

You know I like you Terp, you have a sense of humor. Lemme let you guys in on the punchline

Michigan Miami (even)
I concede I can't argue Michigans case seeing as they happen to loose all of their games out of conference which by the way is enough reason for me to dislike them even if I weren't a buckeye fan and simply liked to support the big ten when arguing points such as this

Ohio State Florida State(even)
I would love to give OSU the edge because they have played better ball recently but I won't leave myself vulnerable because of our losses in the 90's. But I will comment on the fact that Ohio State should not be listed as number 2 in the Big Ten and that Virginia Tech deserves number 2 not Florida State.

Wisconsin Virginia Tech(edge vtech)
DEFINETLY edge Virginia Tech but seeing as Iowa can make a case for the Big Ten number one im not going to give you the satisfaction, this should be even between Iowa and Virginia Tech, even two if you considered Florida State as number 2.

Iowa Virginia (edge iowa)
Should be Wisconson and Virginia and Wisconson definetly gets my vote. I assume I dont need to back this up.

Minnisota Maryland (even)
Here is where things definetly get shaky, I am not going to fault you for placing because I understand where you are coming fro however long term this spot belongs to Penn State and long term Penn state easily knocks off Maryland. If you want to argue about this ill choose to wait until this season ends and you can see for yourself.

Northwestern NC state (nc state)
Wow, only reason I can see for Northwestern here is that they defeated us last season, but honestly this belongs to Purdue. And because NC State and Purdue are rising programs ill overlook Purdues better resume and give this an even.

Illinois Georgia Tech ( GT tech in a landslide)
K Minnesota and Georgia Tech and this is all Minnesota

Indiana Clemson (clemson in a landslide)
Where did Indiana come from? This is Michigan State. Im not trying to embarass you but jesus I dont see you throwing in Duke. This is a tie and very soon Ill be able to come back to this and say that Michigan State is the better program.

Purdue Boston College (even)
I guess Ill leave Illinois here and give you an even.

So for those of you keeping score the Big Ten wins by a three point advantage. If you had kept the list going we would have won by more, which Im sure is why you cut if off. I hope I wasnt byass and if anyone disagrees tell me about it I dont mind.

I wasnt really going by the acc and big ten standings. I was just going off the top of my head the the top programs of the ACC Vs top programs of the Big Ten the mediocre teams in the AcC vs the mediocre teams in the Big ten ect. ect.

I fogot to say I couldnt recall the other big ten teams. FOr some odd reason penn state and Michigan state slipped my mind

Well when comparing conferences it might be to your advantage to check the teams that actually play within it, otherwise your opinion means little. Just be content with the fact that I don't refer to the ACC as the all cupcake conference anymore. Lol i remember a couple years ago when Florida State made a bcs bowl with something close to a five loss record?

Great 'top to bottom' comparisons. :tongue2:

He leaves out Penn State (a top 10-all time program) and Michigan State (a team that's won 3 national championships) from the Big 10.

Then for the ACC he fails to mention the powerhouse Duke, Wake Forest, and North Carolina football programs. None of those programs has ever won a National Championship, and Wake Forest's all time winning % is second worst all time among Division 1-A teams, only above Kent State.

I drove over the Bay Bridge once and I saw a sign the read: 'Did you know? Terripans (bay turtles) do not have jaws!"

I took this to mean that they suck. Big 10 forever and basketball conferences talking junk on a football board NEVER.

I love how this has evolved into another "my conference is better than your conference"......."if OSU played in the ACC they would not be as good"........blah blah blah. Last time I checked OSU has pretty much handled any ACC opponent they have played dating back to the loss to Miami in 2000.

The ACC is a very good conference, but conversations about who is better are just plain generic.
