Maryland Terrapins (turtle)

2002 Miami - Win
2003 NC State - Win
2004 NC State - Win

15 straight nonconference wins even.
ok well NC state is a middle of the Road ACC team and the first time you faced them it went to 3 overtimes. this past year you beat them by 8. And against miami it also went into overtime. I know in all these games OSU walked away with the win but dont act like the acc is a bunch of pushovers which they are not. Does minnisota have or iowa have 37 wins to 13 losses over a 4 year span? I think when my team is on track we are on the par with Iowa. You all act like maryland is garbage but you have to remember you OSU has a top program and Maryland is up and comming. If we can string together a few years of 9 to 11 wins I think we can consistenly be an above-average to Good team.(because of recruiting will get much better and recognition and all that.) I mean we went 5 and freakin 6 we have a top 20 recruiting class I dont think anyteam with a top 25 recruiting class has had a loosing record last year.

I never ever said the Maryland was a better team then Ohio State I said that it would be an interesting matchup. I just think their stlyes of play matchup well.

Terps, this is what it boils down to. The conference comps are just a foil to bolster the argument/ debate that has evolved from a naive post.

Maryland will never be a football power for all of the reasons enumerated above, and the up and coming thing is just that....to be announced. We were
both before you were either. Your team will never get consistent top 10 or for this matter, top twenty cruit classes to compete year in and year out with the majors........sorry bud. Tired.

I seem to recall that Maryland was in the same conference with Penn State and that Penn State very regularly wiped the field with the Terps. In fact they pretty much owned the conference. Then they joined the Big 10. Have you noticed how Penn State dominates the Big 10? And why would that be?

I don't think Miami was an ACC team when they beat us. I do recall UNC beating us in Columbus in the early seventies. The school (UNC) and Charlotte newspapers treated it as something close to the second coming.

Here's an interesting site to compare all time records by conference: http://michigan-football.com/ncaa/ncaa_1a.htm

Eva - I notice from your public profile that you will turn 16 years old in a few weeks. For your birthday present, maybe you can ask your parents for a book on the history of college football, so that you will know which teams comprise the Big Ten Conference (yes, Penn State and Michigan State are members), and so that you will not conveniently "forgot" that Wake Forest and Duke are in the ACC. Also, you might want to do a little research on Ohio State, so that you at least know a little something about the program that you are attempting to discuss. We know our football over here, and we'd be more than happy to discuss it with a newbie like you, but please do us the courtesy of being somewhat informed.

Last I checked, Maryland is a middle-of-the-road ACC team as well. A string of three decent years does not make the Terps an up-and-coming program. Lest you forget, N.C. State was an "up-and-coming" program after they defeated Notre Dame in some meaningless bowl game a few years back. Where are the Pack now? Let's just face the facts - Maryland wasn't a very good team in the pre-merger ACC, and now with Miami, VT, and BC in the conference, the Terps will be lucky to be bowl-eligible on an annual basis.

Yeah, you're probably right ... but that's one hell of a huge IF....

BTW, as I mentioned above, Ohio State's all-time record 757-294-53, for a winning percentage of .710; and Maryland's all-time record is 567-494-43, for a winning percentage of .533. If Maryland were to go 10-2 every year (as you suggest might be possible), then the Terps would equal the Buckeye's winning percentage in 140 years. I hope that you're still around to see it....

The next time you want to call out a Big Ten program, you might want to go after someone your own size, say Northwestern.

P.S. - Welcome to the Planet. If nothing else, your enthusiasm for your school is commendable, and your posts have a certain entertainment value. As far as challenging, let's just say that arguing with a Terps' supporter is a "tune-up" for when the Longhorns and Wolverines show up to fan the flames.

Now, Maryland vs. Notre Dame would actually be a decent topic for discussion.... I'd lay my money on the Terps in that battle.

Notre Dame whipped Fairyland in Ty Willingham's first game at the Irish helm...So, I am not so sure that even THAT is debatable.

Iowa has finished #8 in the AP poll each of the last three years. Maryland has finished in the top 8 exactly once since 1955 (#8 in 1976). You may want to attempt a little research before you start tossing out off-the-cuff opinions or comparisons. Otherwise it's far too simple for your statements to be shredded by the facts.

i will give you Minnesota, right now, though historically, Minnesota is a better program than Maryland... after all, the Golden Gophers DO have 5 National Titles... Iowa, however DOES have a 38-12 record over the last four years, with three straight 10 wins seasons, two conference Titles, and three straight top ten (actually top eight) finishes... all this after going 1-10 in '99... Kirk Ferentz has done a remarkable job in picking up the crumbs that Hayder Frye left, and building an extremely competitive team... remember that they beat the 2003 BCS Champion LSU in their Bowl Game last year, with virtually zero running game due to massive injuries to their running corps... this season, Iowa is once again poised to have yet another top ten run, while Maryland simply hopes to make a Bowl Game... Iowa is thinking Rose Bowl this season... Maryland is thinking Any Bowl...

concerning your points about the close games against NC State and Miami: Miami was on a 34 game winning streak, and was on the brink of being labeled the greatest team of all time when we beat them... surely you can understand the significance of the magnitude of that win... as for NC State, we were up 24-7 halfway through the 4th quarter, when a couple questionable (read:HORRIBLE) calls, and a defensive coordinator who decided that our kids needed to play soft allowed the 'Pack back in the game... NC State was pretty damn good in '03, as i recall... didn't their QB get drafted #2 overall?
