Read a thread over on scUM's board saying that Mason was fired from Minnesota........cant find anything on ESPN's site, and Minnesota's forum hasnt been used in 10 years. Can anyone confirm?

I find that hard to believe considering he has won back to back bowl games!!!

But you never know...I wouldn't fire the guy unless he's had some improprieties...good coach with a lot of potential

    From Today BTW

Wait I take that back, it didnt say he was fired.......just said "Mason out at Minnesota, Spurrier in at South Carolina". The guy could be full of shit.

Lou Holtz is lobbying for Spurrier to take over when he retires. Said next year could be a real possibility for Spurrier there.

BTW, Mason was not fired. He won't be this year. It's already been discussed this weekend by their AD.

    Spurrier is all speculation..

i did get it from the scUM board. No idea why I would believe something I read on there.

Holtz has shown some fire down here on the radio lately when asked about the situation...something to the manner of "I think I am still the Head Football Coach here..."

Never know with Lou...if they beat Clemson, he is gone. They lose again...he may come back for one more...young and talented team

The article I read said that Lou was lobbying for Spurrier to take over after he retires.

AFTER is the key word...Lou has been testy lately regarding the whole issue

I've said it before and I'll say it again...Glen Mason will not be better than 5-3 as long as he coaches at Minnesota. They are either the most overrated, or most underachieving team in the Big 10 when they actually have to play somebody. I know he's a nice guy and all, but there is no way I want him coaching at an elite program.

Yes but if Mason could get half the recruits we get on defense he would be running for NC's every year. Minnesotas problem is defense. The cannot get the big name defensive recruits they need to make a NC run. His offense will score 30 but their D will give up 35.

coastalbuck And this one belongs to the Reds!

Grad, you know Lou is always testy. I think with a win Sat. against Clem''s son, he heads for Orlando for good. That Augusta National membership that Hootie has in his pocket will be the bait for Spurrier. The lot on the lake won't hurt either...

I know it...I'd guess it is a done deal WHEN Lou goes...but I'm just not sold that is this year. SPurrier is still collecting mad money from the Skins so he is in no hurry
