Matt Terwilliger (official thread)

We are going to need him NCAA. He is clutch when he is in there. A big man that can knock down a shot from anywhere inside the 3-point.

And he has the range if he steps another step back, too! He hits them all the time in shoot-a-rounds. Shoulda seem him before the scUM game. The two he hit didn't surprise me one bit after watching him shoot pre-game.

Get well soon Twiggy!! We need ya bro!

Not overlooking this year, by any means, but I think he is going to turn into the 4 man for next year. He is not the most prototypical 4 for Matta's offense where he can put it on the floor and take it to the hole and shoot, but he can stretch the D with the 15 footer and hopefully by next year he will knock down the 3's with consistency.

Him and Oden could be a terror together on the court at the same time.

I also find it amazing that someone can get an apendectomy and be ready to play bball with in a weeks time.

College basketball: OSU backup
questionable

Thursday, March 9, 2006

Ohio State backup center Matt Terwilliger had an appendectomy Wednesday and is questionable for the No. 7 Buckeyes in this weekend’s Big Ten tournament, the school said. Terwilliger will not travel with the team, which was to leave today for its quarterfinal game Friday in Indianapolis against the winner of the Penn State-Northwestern game, Ohio State spokesman Dan Wallenberg said. The team expects Terwilliger to be ready for the NCAA tournament, Wallenberg said.

Hopefully it was a laparoscopic procedure with no complications. I have no idea what the recovery time would be. Where is Tibor75 (aka doctorb) for an expert medical explanation when we need him?

The Ohio State men’s basketball team will play its Big Ten tournament opener Friday with no center backing up conference player of the year Terence Dials.

But coach Thad Matta said 6-foot-8 sophomore Matt Terwilliger "will be ready for the NCAA Tournament" next week despite having an appendectomy yesterday at the OSU Medical Center.

Terwilliger first experienced discomfort Sunday, athletics department spokesman Dan Wallenberg said.

"It got worse, they did some tests Tuesday, and based on those tests, he had the procedure done," Wallenberg said.

The Buckeyes (23-4), the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, play at noon Friday in Indianapolis against the winner of a first-round game between Penn State and Northwestern.

Terwilliger has not been ruled out beyond that game, Wallenberg said.

Semifinals are Saturday and the championship game Sunday.

Terwilliger averaged 10.7 minutes during the season.
The Buckeyes are scheduled to leave today for Indianapolis. Terwilliger is not expected to be with them, Wallenberg said, but he is expected to rejoin the team Friday.

Terwilliger update

The status of backup center Matt Terwilliger, who had an appendectomy Wednesday, officially is day to day, but Terwilliger said that he won’t play today and can only hope he is cleared for the NCAA Tournament this week.
"They told me two weeks is the average recovery time," he said. "I’m doing everything I can to get ready. This is about the only time of day I don’t spend in bed sleeping, trying to recover."

I have a cousin that had an appendectomy when he was younger and was able to take batting practice in 4 days. IIRC they can do appendectomies arthroscopicly now so that they don't have to cut a hole through your abs like they used to. That greatly reduces recovery time.

If we had had Twigs for the Iowa game alone, I think we'd have been hoisting another trophy to add to the case. Iowa scored darn near 20 in the 1st half in the paint because our only two big men available were on the bench with 2 fouls. It would have been a whole different ball game with Terwilliger down there.
