“He is back in school, in California,” a Nebraska football spokesperson said. “We have him working on a plan that gets him to graduation. Even if he graduates this summer, he is not going to graduate with enough core hours. The plan that we have him on currently is one that puts us in a position to make an application for a waiver for an academic redshirt.”

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska running back Maurice Washington could face charges in California for allegedly sending a video via text message to his former girlfriend of what she says was a sexual assault.

Washington, 19, could be charged under California's "revenge porn" law and face a felony charge of distribution of child pornography, according to a report by NBC Bay Area.

He did not participate in the filming of the video and does not appear in the video. But because the girl was only 15 at the time the video was filmed in 2016, distribution of child pornography charges might apply.

According to a search-warrant affidavit issued in Santa Clara County, the young woman dated Washington while they were students at The King's Academy High School in Sunnyvale, California.

She contacted Washington last year via Instagram to congratulate him on receiving a college scholarship. Washington responded by making sexual advances, according to the affidavit. The young woman responded that she was not interested in a romantic relationship.

On March 2, 2018, Washington sent a text message to the young woman that contained a 10-second video of her sexual encounter with two juvenile male peers, with the message, "Remember this hoe." Her stepmother intercepted the message and reported it to the Santa Clara Sheriff's Office.

so now it's his academics and this "revenge porn" legal issue? Wow, not getting his college career off to a very rosey start. May have dodged another bullet. Wonder if he ever suits up for Frost and the Huskers.

Reminds me a lot of the type of kid we'll see on the next season of "Last Chance U" on Netflix that ultimately never makes it.

Agreed.
All that talent, but none headed off the field decisions.
